A Gamer's Review of 'Gamer'
by Kevin [ Wednesday, 9th of September 2009 - 12:02 PM ]
Quick Hit: Gamer seems to want to be a film about a future that is governed by our most base and decadent desires for sex and violence, but instead is a forgettable film that is wrought with questions but lacks the ability to provide any answers or establish a unique identity. Be forewarned. There are some spoilers ahead. So if you still plan on seeing the flick and want to be “surprised”, I’d wager you’d want to stop reading right about now. Still with me? Read More...

Review: Fate/Unlimited Codes Portable
by Michael Camacho [ Saturday, 5th of September 2009 - 01:11 PM ]
Fans of the anime series Fate/Stay Night have been clamoring for an American release of the fighting game series the anime was based off of. Finally Capcom has answered the fans with the release of Fate/Unlimited Codes Portable for the PSP as a download only title on PSN. Fate/Unlimited Codes Portable is exactly what its title describes, as it is the portable version of the PS2 port available only in Japan. Before I get into my review, I would like to say my review is based upon the Japanese version, and the only major difference between the two releases is the translated text in the U.S. Read More...

Gate Jumping From PAX
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 4th of September 2009 - 11:07 PM ]
Even though you may not have been able to make it to PAX this year, for what ever reason or another, don't think you are going to be left out in the dark on fun content updates. Fun content like new screen shots and the fact behind Jumpgate Evolution from Codemasters. Like the ones that we swiped on placed here for you. You know down below, where they usually on when we bring up the fact that there are new screens. This MMO looks very interesting from the facts and images here though. Read More...

Climax Action Comes to the Tokyo Game Show
by Kevin [ Friday, 4th of September 2009 - 05:10 PM ]
The more I hear and read about Bayonetta, the more I can appreciate the game for what it is - or what it potentially will be. You've heard how the protagonist essentially becomes more and more naked with different attacks, and how her hair transforms into weapons, and how the game contains "Torture Combos", "Witch Time", and "Non-Stop Climax Action". However, what you don't know is that I actually met with Sega for a game similar in both tone and style which I dubbed Thana-Nude the Pistolista. My game, which contained "Hot Sticky Combination Attacks", "Uncomfortable Whimpering Time", as well as "Parent Angering Immoral Fatal Thrust Strikes", focused on Thana-Nude - a 'death fairy ronin' who fell from the sky after the great seperation of the Lost Tombs of Zeebs in the Seventh Ascenion. Making Getting A Job Testing Games A Game
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 4th of September 2009 - 02:56 PM ]
We all have heard it before. What would be the best job for a gamer? Playing/Testing games is generally the answer. I'm a fan of paid to just live, but hey, that's not going to be likely. Also not the point here. Yesterday (9/3/09), Sony and the SCEA Studios are giving gamers just that chance. The chance to be one of their game testers for at least a year. Not only that, but to be paid to be one of their game testers for a year. Something that is nigh impossible for someone to get into even though they have all the qualifications for it. Read More...

You’re entire team is killed on camera along with over six hundred civilians, sixty of which were children. That is Robbie Baldwin’s world. While in high school, Robbie worked part-time in a lab. Review: Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures Episode 4: The Bogey Man
by Brian Bentley [ Thursday, 3rd of September 2009 - 05:22 AM ]
If you wish to read my review of Episode 1: Fright of the Bumblebees and get more background, click here. My review of Episode 2: The Last Resort is here. The most recent, Episode 3: Muzzled! is here. All good things must come to an end, so they say. As it is in overused quotes, so it is with the delightful Wallace&Gromit's Grand Adventures from Telltale Games. This marks the fourth and final tale of England's favourite inventor and his clever canine companion. Alliteration aside, Episode 4: The Bogey Man closes up any holes left in the moderately overarching narrative of the tetralogy while leaving more than adequate room to follow up with a new story for this duo. Where Did My Hats Go?
by Stephanie Naboshek [ Thursday, 3rd of September 2009 - 02:14 AM ]
Today to my surprise, while chatting amongst fellow TF2 players in IRC, a sudden cry of "NOOOOOOOO!" began to fill the channel. Valve, the developer of Team Fortress 2, had gone in and flagged about 4.5% of accounts for using idling programs. I, being one of these hat hoarders, was also affected and have become quite saddened at the loss of my 2 hats. For those not familiar with the TF2 Drop system, Team Fortress 2 has items such as weapons, hats, and other misc unlockables available to earn at random when you play a server. As such, idling programs became widely popular amongst it's players, me included. Read More...

Grand Theft Auto comes to iPhone and iPod touch
by Corey Dockendorf [ Tuesday, 1st of September 2009 - 09:31 PM ]
Take2 interactive announced yesterday that they will be releasing Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for the iPhone and iPod touch. With the release of the game on Nintendo DS, and PSP in late October, it’s no surprise that they are developing for the iPod touch/iPhone which is quickly becoming the next generation portable gamer system. I remember playing the original grand theft auto, and this new version is very reminiscent of that. The top-down, open-world style game play is really bringing back the roots of the original Grand theft auto. Read More...

Review: Guitar Hero 5
by Ben Brody [ Tuesday, 1st of September 2009 - 11:25 AM ]
So another one is out. I won't bother you with what Guitar Hero is, nor will I bore you with details about how the game is played, or whether it plays well. Yes, it plays well, and yes, it is same as it always has been, press the note on the bars then strum when the according color passes the bar. However, there are some new additions that make Guitar Hero 5 the best Guitar Hero yet. Party play is long overdue, and something that was almost added into Rock Band 1. Party play is just that, a mode for a party. Read More...

Review: Batman: Arkham Asylum
by Jesse [ Monday, 31st of August 2009 - 07:17 PM ]
If I’m not mistaken, Batman: Arkham Asylum is the twenty-first video game centered around the Dark Knight. Going all the way back to 1986 and the first game, appropriately titled Batman, I’ve only really found a handful of the games that can be considered at the very least decent. The SNES version of Batman Returns was great as a typical side-scrolling brawling game and of course more recently there was last year’s Lego Batman which was good for a laugh or two. However nothing really captured the spirit of the character, let alone his environment and for the games that tried, they failed miserably. But Batman is one of those characters that people are willing to take a chance on. Read More...

Wolfenstein Review
by Ben Brody [ Saturday, 29th of August 2009 - 11:42 AM ]
Perhaps it's a little to old for some of you younger gamers out there, but Wolfenstein has always had a place in my heart. Wolfenstein 3D revolutionized the FPS genre, and while Wolfenstein doesn't have as much of an impact on the video game industry as Wolfenstein 3D did, it is certainly a fun filled game. The game is a sequel to Return to Castle Wolfenstein, which was released for the PS2, PC, and XBOX in 2001, and stars William “BJ” Blackowitz, who was the protagonist in the previous Wolfenstein games. While Wolfenstein departs from many of the nostalgic elements that RTCW had, it keeps the main tradition of Wolfenstein alive: Supernatural Nazis are trying to take over the world. Read More...

Kurt Cobain To Posthumously Play Guitar Hero 5
by Brian Bentley [ Friday, 28th of August 2009 - 04:33 PM ]
Grunge and flannel: they go together like consoles&fanboys. Defining an entire decade of rock, grunge started the trend to move away from synth-pop, popular in the 80's, to a harder sound that emphasized the angst building in rebellion to 80's preppy style and trickle down economics. The earthier sounds and personalities of the grunge scene felt like you were watching a garage band down the street rather than the huge arenas and corporate heroes of pristine pop music and shiny glam-rock. Nirvana's release of Nevermind and the subsequent momentum shocked and appalled people as much as it enticed and enthralled. Their music was inspiring to a new generation of music listeners on a completely new medium, the Compact Disc. Read More...

Brütal Metal Achievements
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 27th of August 2009 - 09:00 PM ]
I Got A Car And A Date. Some Chicks N' Booze N' Stuff. Then I Ran To The Hills. All for some Hair Remover, and Now You Must Tell The Tale. All to rock out and be Six Degrees Of Schafer. Now I am a Rock God! Oh snap! Ok, no you don't, but I thought it a fun way to work some of these fun and metal achievement/trophy names into this. This being the official list of the Achievement and Trophies you will be able to collect this coming October Rocktober in Brütal Legend. For a game that was originally designed to be a multiplayer RTS, you would have expected to find more of the multiplayer stuff as trophies too. Read More...
