You will be 'Enslaved'
by Corey Dockendorf [ Wednesday, 30th of September 2009 - 04:11 PM ]
So back in August, Namco Bandai and Heavenly Sword developer Ninja Theory announced at Gamecom that they would be creating a partnership together. They also announced they would be developing a "blockbuster title with strong pan-Western sensibilities" for PS3 and XBox 360. Well now we have details on that very title. The title 'Enslaved' is loosley based on the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. Players take on the role of Monkey and Trip and travel through post-apocalyptic America. Read More...

Valve Releases Free Crash Course DLC
by Brian Bentley [ Wednesday, 30th of September 2009 - 03:36 AM ]
Today Valve released Crash Course, the next big free* DLC for their immensely popular Left4Dead franchise. Ben went into what it's all about back here, but the the gist is that between No Mercy and Death Toll, the helicopter that rescued you on top of the hospital went down and now our survivors are no longer safe. They must keep moving to stay alive. On top of the co-operative and survival modes for this campaign the versus mode includes a 30-minute limit to speed things along. Read More...

Capcom Forgot How To Count Again
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 29th of September 2009 - 07:45 PM ]
Oh Capcom you were doing so well with the counting again. You started with Resident Evil going to four and then five. THen you continued with Street Fighter and Dead Rising, both going four and two respectfully. It was looking like the past of Super Ultra Directors Cut of an earlier title rehashed as a new title had gone the way of the dodo in your eyes. You were kicking out full and new games. Then you go and ruin it with this. Read More...

Extracting More Images Of Fear
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 29th of September 2009 - 02:20 PM ]
Dead Space: Extraction comes out this week on the Wii. This Tuesday to be exact. On a system that the core game was never on, only rumored about being on. But at least it is on a system that is made perfectly for a rail-shooter style of game. As the Resident Evil franchise has shown in the past and in the not too far off future. But that is not to say that the visuals are not going to be geared up to shock and instill horror in the minds of its players. In fact, here are a bunch of shots from the game and concepts to prove that point. Read More...

Review: Scribblenauts
by Brian Bentley [ Tuesday, 29th of September 2009 - 04:06 AM ]
There are times when you are playing a game that you simply say “They got it right.”  It could be during a puzzle or moving through open spaces or fighting enemy AI, but usually it only happens once or twice, or if you’re lucky, several times.  Imagine playing a game that gives you that feeling in almost every one of the 220 puzzles packaged into that tiny Nintendo DS cartridge.  Welcome to Scribblenauts. You play as Maxwell. Review: Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 25th of September 2009 - 08:33 PM ]
The Civil War saga in the Marvel universe has been one of the best stories to grace comic books in quite some time. It's a great story that is an allegorical commentary in the wake of 9/11 and The Patriot Act. In the storyline, a Superhuman, Nitro, goes nuclear in Stamford, Connecticut, killing hundreds during a reality TV show. A TV show that was like COPS but following the New Warriors. Once this happens, the US public demands that Superhumans answer for their actions and the Superhuman Registration Act is put in place forcing heroes to come out and show who they are. Read More...

Nier is Hopefully Not Too Far
by Kevin [ Friday, 25th of September 2009 - 03:21 PM ]
Nier,or Nier Gestalt as it goes by these days, is one of those titles that I really feel could go either way. It could be a really compelling experience with a narrative that draws you in with some really deep action elements, or it could be a largely forgettable title with little to allow it to stand out among other similar entries in the genre. The design of the game is decidedly Square Enix and if we have learned anything from their protagonists, there will be a rich melencholy right below the surface of the gruff devil may care attitude. Will the style of the game be enough? Read More...

TGS Fantasies Are Given
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 24th of September 2009 - 07:41 PM ]
As was to be expected in the Final Fantasy Fan capital of the world, Japan, and at the game show specifically in their location, Tokyo Game Show, there is some new eye candy for the franchise. All in the form of shots of the specific Final Fantasy bundled PS3 and a nice shiny new game trailer for Final Fantasy XIV. Something to get the salivary glands overworking for us all that couldn't make TGS yet still wanted to see something from Square Enix. The themed PS3, seen below, is a bit "girlie" if I do say so. It's been months since Plants vs. Zombies has been released and you still haven't picked it up? Maybe the economy has affected you more than most people realize? Well for whatever the reason is, you do not have an excuse to not be playing Plants vs Zombies. PopCap has launched a free Flash-based version of the game off their site. “Plants vs. Zombies is a deceptively deep game that takes awhile to grow on gamers,” said Ben Rotholtz, vice president of Marketing at PopCap. Review: Need For Speed Shift
by Ben Brody [ Wednesday, 23rd of September 2009 - 12:01 PM ]
Let's be honest, NFS Undercover was bad, and EA knew it, that's why they handed development of the latest game in the series to Slightly Mad Studios, who had previously made the GTR series. The game encounters problems that aren't necessarily it's own fault. The driving is good, great even, the issue is that both Forza 3 and Gran Turismo 5 are coming out around the corner, and with most people's opinions about Need For Speed soured by the last iteration, it'll be hard to convince them to go with Shift. That said, EA does a really good job. It's nice to see EA ditch the ridiculous story mode (IE: undercover cop looking to bust an illegal drug trade by infiltrating some illegal street racing club) in favor of what a racing game should be about: THE RACING. Nintendo DLC For The Week Of 9/21/09
by Brian Bentley [ Tuesday, 22nd of September 2009 - 05:39 PM ]
Another week of download releases by Nintendo means another week of low-hanging fruit for criticism on the choices for DSiWare downloads. Also included in this week is another Commodore 64 game for Virtual Console. At this point, I wish there was a defensible position to take on some of these choices for DLC. We have five releases this week across the three platforms. The lone Virtual Console title, Last Ninja 2, is from the Commodore 64. Read More...

Review: WET
by Michael Camacho [ Monday, 21st of September 2009 - 12:37 PM ]
Are you ready to get WET? Artificial Mind and Movement, the game's developers, sure hope you are. WET has been in the works for a long time, originally set to release under Sierra, but eventually dropped when acquired by Activision. It finally found its home amongst Bethesda Softworks. So will you dip your hands into this title and get them WET? WET, this is a shortened term for wetworks, which involves a messy job that involves hands being wet with blood. This is where our heroine, Rubi Malone (voiced by Eliza Dushku), comes into the picture. Read More...

Review: NHL 10
by Ben Brody [ Friday, 18th of September 2009 - 12:30 PM ]
NHL 10. NHL 09 was hands down the best hockey game of all time, and NHL 10 builds on that. So it's not as much of a leap from NHL 09 as Madden 10 was to Madden 09, but it is a big step in the right direction. And perhaps not taking a leap from NHL 09, which won a slew of sports game of the year awards, is a good thing. NHL 10 keeps the tradition that NHL 09 had, mix in a fairly realistic mode (an ultra realistic mode can be played in the game, with 20 minute periods and everything) with enough arcadiness to not turn off casual players, and have yourself some fun. The graphics are the same as is the audio, another job well done by Gary Thorne and Bill Clement (although they probably only spent about 5 hours recording the new audio), and the new crowd sounds make it feel that much more real.
