Grunge and flannel: they go together like consoles&fanboys. Defining an entire decade of rock, grunge started the trend to move away from synth-pop, popular in the 80's, to a harder sound that emphasized the angst building in rebellion to 80's preppy style and trickle down economics. The earthier sounds and personalities of the grunge scene felt like you were watching a garage band down the street rather than the huge arenas and corporate heroes of pristine pop music and shiny glam-rock. Toys, pack-ins, gimmicks, add-ons and peripherals are all words that are not unknown or unheard of to Nintendo Wii owners’ ears.  Since the console’s launch in 2006, a great many guns zappers, dance pads, microphones, etc., have been bundled with Wii games filling living rooms to capacity -- especially with the onset of rhythm games.  Even Nintendo’s best-selling game, WiiPlay is merely a controller with a $10 tech demo, and there has always been a premium attached to the bundles that have exceeded the normal price point for a Wii game at $49.99. Guild Wars 2 Trailer Who wants to see what Guild Wars 2 is going to look like? I know I do. With this new video I thought I was going to be let down a bit. In fact about half way through I started to wonder if there was going to be anything more than just "still frames" (Animatics) with a narration of the goings on in the game world. Finally some closure. After a very long and grueling process, Activision and Double Fine Studios have come to some even ground and we do not have to worry about Brütal Legend being delayed in all it's rocking glory. According to the Associated Press and the New York Times, the Lawyers for Activision told court officials that they had finally come to a settlement with Double Fine Studios on Wednesday. For a brief recap see my previous article Activision tells EA to Back off The Los Angeles Superior Court spokeswoman said that Activision settled with Double Fine and a hearing, that was supposed to occur this fine Thursday morning, was canceled. What was heard last week was that the Superior Court Judge Craig Karlan had told Activision's lawyers that the request was probably going to get denied and the game was going to get released on time anyways. Friday: XBox and PlayStation Day After fixing the few technical issues with Issue #1, we move onto the next day. A day dedicated primarily to what two of the largest companies and platforms brought to show off the gaming world. PlayStation and Xbox in case you couldn't figure it out. For some reason Nintendo was completely void of the con, outside of the companies showing off Wii and DS games they have coming out. But that's not the point here. Guitar Hero 5 Controllers And Tracks So it is now official. I will have to buy Guitar Hero 5. All because of one of the new tracks released to the public. Rammstein has been in my hopes ever since the I got into the rhythm game genre. Finally someone brought it to fruition. I just wish it was the game that I was backing for a while. High Voltage Software unveiled its Wii-exclusive first person shooter (FPS), The Conduit, to the eager gaming public more than a year ago. Nintendo fans saw the game as a surprising, yet welcome, departure from the Wii’s library of casual games. Harmonix: Music Games Could Abandon Consoles If you had to only buy a fake instrument to plug into your TV to play Rock Band or Guitar Hero, would you? Druids, are you tired of looking the same as all the other Druids? Would you want to change colors in your bear and cat form? Do you want to dance in bear form in style? Well now you can, as Blizzard has announced new looks for the Druids! In the next major patch for World of Warcraft, druids will be able to find color schemes for the bear and cat forms. Blizzard made the following announcement on their Under Development page: “There will be five different designs for each of these forms for the Horde and Alliance. Night elves can choose to change their cat and bear look at any time by visiting the barber shop and changing their character's hair color, while tauren will be able to change which look they use by switching skin tones in the barber shop -- a new feature for tauren in the next major content patch. More Peripherals!!!!  Yay!  I know that is what you're thinking as today Activision announced their fall releases of "Hero" franchises. Attempting to break into the hip-hop and R&B markets, they will be releasing DJ Hero, coming to you with special turntable peripheral.  No longer content with sticking to plastic instruments, they are moving into plastic electronics.  Couch Potato Hero will of course have plastic TV and remote as you sit on your couch playing a person sitting on a couch.  All kidding aside I really hope to see this at E3 in a few weeks and take it for a spin*.
