by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 10th of July 2012 - 08:31 PM ]
I won't be starting with the basics this time. If you want that, check out our review of the first episode of The Walking Dead. That should get you up to speed so you can dive right into episode two. So without further adieu. Story Three months after the events of the first episode Lee and crew are running low on food and supplies. There have been a few new additions to the group as well as a location change. During the drought of food, a few other survivors stumble upon the group and offer food and supplies in exchange for fuel. Read More...

Play The Walking Dead For Real At Comic Con
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 2nd of July 2012 - 08:37 PM ]
So by now you've most likely played Telltale's The Walking Dead, read the comic or seen the show. If anything you at least are interested in the zombie apocalypse scenario. Well here is something that those interested in any of those things mention will find pretty damn awesome. If you are at San Diego Comic Con next week you will have the chance to actually play "the game" for real. The game being that of surviving in a world where the dead have escaped the Underworld and are coming for your flesh. This isn't some small obstacle course set up as fun for promotions either. Indie Game Of The Month: A Valley Without Wind
by Fred Buell [ Thursday, 28th of June 2012 - 06:33 PM ]
For all those lovers of classic action games or side scrolling RPGs; look no further than A Valley Without Wind. When I spoke with the developers from Arcen Games at PAX East last April, they had said they loved the old 2D actioners like Super Metroid, Castlevania and so on. They said the one thing they hate about those games is 'they end.' A Valley Without Wind plays just like the aforementioned games with a hint of MMO and one huge difference. It doesn’t end and the maps a randomly generated. Read More...

My Top 20 Favorite Video Game Tracks Of All Time
by Matt Waitt [ Monday, 25th of June 2012 - 06:53 PM ]
Since we do a lot of standard news and reviews on Aggrogamer I think it's time we get a little personal. I am a huge fan of music. I love listening to it and I most certainly enjoy creating it. So here are my top 20 all time favorite themes from a video game. Enjoy. Note: the first 15 are in no specific order but the top 5 are in order of epicness. Spider-Man&Venom: Maximum Carnage - "Carnage Rules" An epic opening to one of the best Spider Man games of all time Serious Sam: The First Encounter - "Fight 5" When this song pops during an epic fire fight in Serious Sam, your adrenaline surges through your veins as you enter "The Zone" Mirror's Edge - "Kate (Puzzle)" I loved Mirror's Edge and this song was so soothing and relaxing. I still listen to it a lot. Read More...

E3 2012 Impressions: Dead Space 3
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 20th of June 2012 - 11:28 PM ]
Talk about an awesome announcement at this year's E3, Dead Space 3! Yes I am one of those people out there who still love the franchise even though EA is milking it for everything. But Dead Space was one of the games in the recent years that revitalized the survival horror genre for me. Needless to say I did everything I could to fit in a viewing of the game. While originally this was shown behind closed doors at the show, recently the game's Executive Producer (Steve Papoutsis) posted a video showcasing exactly everything we all got to see on the show floor. I was nice enough to include the 20 minute game play footage show casing the single player and co-op for you below. Read More...

E3 2012 Hands On: Borderlands 2
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 15th of June 2012 - 08:20 PM ]
Borderlands 2 has probably got to be one of the biggest sequels coming to market this year and yours truly here got a nice 30 minute hands on with the game. Not only that, but I got hands on with the Assassin class that has yet to be playable until E3. Well at least to the general public that is. So let me break down what I got to play and give you a bit of detail into a few things Borderlands 2. Before anyone asks, they didn't really go into detail on the character creation/progression in the game and I didn't have time to dig into the three trees of the Zer0. But as you can assume they all mostly revolved around things that would make you a better, sneaky killer. Read More...

E3 2012 Impressions: Metro: Last Light
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 12th of June 2012 - 07:23 PM ]
Some may not know that while at E3 to see some of the titles you are interested in you sometimes have to sit through demos or presentations of games you have no interest in or may have barely heard of. This was the case for me, but it lead to a spectacular showing of Metro: Last Light. I had little to no clue about this horror FPS, outside of the live action trailer (see below), except that it is the sequel to Metro 2033. This was good going into the demonstration as I was able to view it through 'virgin' eyes. So the game play started out like one would expect of any FPS title. Read More...

E3 2012 Hands On: Darksiders II
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 11th of June 2012 - 08:54 PM ]
With a tagline of "Death Lives" you better know that I would be all over Darksiders II and boy was I at this year's E3. While THQ didn't have a huge booth to show off the game, it was being shown behind closed doors as well as playable for the first time. For the most part it plays like Darksiders, but there were some pretty cool and nice additions that I will now go over. Do not that this was not the final build of the game, but the features discussed will be making their way in. For all of those out there who played and loved Darksiders, you will be happy to know that, like mentioned the controls and movement of DS2 is almost if not exactly the same. Read More...

The State of Gaming: Publishers
by Fred Buell [ Wednesday, 30th of May 2012 - 10:18 PM ]
You all may have noticed lately the onslaught of things like Online Passes, On-Disc DLC, and DLC that have been announced and made before release. Many of you may be under the impression the publisher/developers are just being greedy and trying to squeeze out every penny from you. What you don’t know is the inner-workings behind the scenes. The publishers are losing money this gen due to higher cost of development, and lower economies. They also have long standing arrangements with stores like GameStop where if a game flops they will buy back the product at full price or eat the cost and make zero money back if the store decides to price cut it down to move inventory. Death Strikes Again With A New Darksiders II CGI Trailer
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 18th of May 2012 - 09:21 PM ]
Way back in March we got a nice little CGI trailer for Darksiders II. It was cool and beautiful, but it was only the first part of the promotional video. Lucky for us, below we have the next part of the clip which also leaves us wanting and waiting for the continuation of Death's badassitude. Yes it's a word. Deal with it. My only hope is that these kinds of clips will take over for the cut scenes in Darksiders II, at least for major scenes. Read More...

Mercenary Ops Beta Opens
by Fred Buell [ Tuesday, 15th of May 2012 - 06:11 PM ]
Mercenary Ops; the new free-to-play 3rd person shooter MMO due out this Summer from Yingpei Games; is now accepting beta applicants. All you have to do is 'Like' their Facebook page and beta hopefuls will be selected and sent out beta codes for the promising game. Beta entrants will be allowed into the servers June 20th. I think Mercenary Ops looks great for being a F2P MMO and being based in the Unreal Engine 3 only helps. Customizable weapons and character perks put this along with other MMOs in terms of gear, but its co-op missions, boss fights and head to head style modes keep this game firmly secured in the world of shooters. Review: The Walking Dead: Episode 1
by Matt Waitt [ Thursday, 26th of April 2012 - 10:02 PM ]
Developed and Published by Telltale Games this episodic game takes place within The Walking Dead universe. While some characters share the names of those in the comic and TV show, it is a whole new story. The Walking Dead is a point and click game with "precision" quick-time events. Instead of simply hitting a button you have to aim in a specific spot and then hit a button. I sat down to play The Walking Dead expecting a quick little hour or so session but I soon found myself sucked in to the characters and their story. I actually finished the game in one session. PAX East Hands-On: Borderlands 2
by Matt Waitt [ Wednesday, 11th of April 2012 - 04:17 PM ]
Borderlands 2 is a massive improvement from the first installment. The controls are super smooth and tight. The feeling of level grinding seems to have disappeared, thankfully. Having other colors in the game, rather than just brown, has really showed off the rich and beautiful landscape that the world of Pandora has to offer. I got to play as the new Siren in the game: Maya. Her special ability stuns her enemies in a blackish purple vortex allowing you to get off some free shots. Read More...

PAX East Hands-On: Spec Ops: The Line
by Matt Waitt [ Tuesday, 10th of April 2012 - 09:48 PM ]
At PAX East I got to try out a little bit of the single player campaign for Spec Ops: The Line, and had a great interview with one of the developers. I really enjoyed the demo at PAX East. It was very smooth and had responsive controls. There events where you had a chance to negotiate with your enemies, but if things went sour you had to reap the consequences. For instance one group of enemies had a hostage and was threatening to kill him. Instead of waiting for them to assassinate him, I made a quick decision to kill the enemies and save my team mate's life. Read More...

by Brian Bentley [ Wednesday, 4th of April 2012 - 04:37 PM ]
…and we're not gonna take it anymore. That may only be slightly paraphrasing the movie Network, but then again, we're gamers, so we'll probably continue to "take it." We're hoping you take and enjoy our latest episode of the Aggrocast as Corey, Brian and Matt talk about the latest news, including the recent announcement for Amazon Instant Video on PS3. The guys also talk about their latest adventures in gaming - including World of Warcraft, iPad games, SNES games, Wheels of Destruction and Mass Effect 2. Our Community Spotlight this week focuses on our support for Aggrogamer's own Chief Editor, David Becker, as he attempts to break gender-stereotypes and win the Maxim Gamer Girl contest. Read More...
