Holiday Gaming Memories
by Kevin [ Tuesday, 29th of December 2009 - 08:50 PM ]
Now that Christmas has come and gone, we reflect on the joys of the holiday and the time we now have to enjoy the fruits of commercialism. Pull up a chair, and grab your favorite console, and take a listen - it's story time. There was a time before Halo, before Uncharted, a time of purity. An age of gaming declared glorious in its simplicity. It was dubbed 8-bit. It was pure pixeled perfection, and it was a time of punishing difficulty, limited continues, and precision timing. Steam Achievements Added to Torchlight
by Brian Bentley [ Wednesday, 23rd of December 2009 - 04:35 PM ]
We, as humans, are a competitive, goal-oriented species.  The category of humans known as gamers are characteristically more so.  So when little goals outside of the main game play were created on platforms this console generation (Achievements on Xbox 360 and Steam, trophies on the PS3), gamers took to them with a ferocity only matched by the public's outrage to the release of Coke 2.  The obsession with achievements has grown to the point that people will go out of their way to grind away for hours, simply to have the tiny extrinsic award.  As a bit of an afterthought and most likely a reward to the fans, last week Runic Games released over 60 achievements that may be earned on Steam for their critically acclaimed action-RPG Torchlight. by Corey Dockendorf [ Tuesday, 22nd of December 2009 - 03:14 AM ]

by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 18th of December 2009 - 03:49 PM ]
Continuing from the God of War Review from a few weeks ago, the beginning part of the Collection, we bring you God of War II. Which as you would think, continues the story of Kratos and his fight against the Gods and Titans from Greek mythology. Only this time with a little bit more twists and a quasi surprise ending that some could kind of see coming. At least if you know your mythology. Before I get to much further in, let me answer a question you may have. Read More...

Well, the beta test application site for Final Fantasy XIV has opened up, and while the beta may only be for the PC, it is a great chance for those interested to poke around in what could be a fantastic MMO experience. For the curious, the requirements are: Be at least 18 years of age Possess a Square Enix ID account (Register for a Square Enix ID account here, if you don't have one already) Possess an internet connection Be capable of downloading large amounts of data Be capable of submitting bug reports in either Japanese, English, French, or German Like any other beta test, there will be several waves and opportunities to enter the beta so don't be discouraged if you don't make it in initially. by Kevin [ Tuesday, 15th of December 2009 - 04:10 PM ]
A lot of people were disappointed by the recent Video Game Awards held on Spike TV, and in most cases the disappointment is very much deserved. Although the award ceremony was filled with professionals and had some fantastic exclusives to premier, it still comes off as very much forced and not at all exciting. Fortunately, for the gaming audience there were some great trailers shown. As Binh said in a great article that covered the results of the show, the true stars were the trailers. Read More...

What I Want: Rock Band Franchise
by Michael Camacho [ Monday, 14th of December 2009 - 12:47 AM ]
What I Want: From the Rock Band Franchise Recently I played Beatles: Rock Band and Lego Rock Band, and while one was looking back at a band's career and the other was geared to a younger crowd, they both did something that really caught my attention. They had a story, not just creating a band and playing songs at venues. You actually had a story to some gigs or had special concerts you held. I came to an instant revelation at this point.
