Aggrocast Episode Forty Four: Launches, Lawsuits and Laughter
by Michael Camacho [ Sunday, 11th of October 2009 - 06:47 PM ]
Episode 44 of the Aggrocast has landed and unfortunately for the crew, we have had some busy weeks lately. This has resulted in too few games being played. We do talk about the few we got our hands on, including Halo 3 ODST, Beatles Rock Band, Aion and more. We also bring you some interesting topics this week. We go over the PSP Go launch and Binh discusses his hands on with his launch day system. The possibility looms that I bought one as well, but refuse to say if I did or not. Read More...

LOTRO Expansion To Change Mount System, Making A Difference
by Brian Bentley [ Wednesday, 7th of October 2009 - 07:53 PM ]
With the new Lord of the Rings Online expansion, Siege of Mirkwood, set to release in less than two months, more information about some of the the enhancements have trickled out in the form of developer diaries. In one of the recent developer diaries, the LOTRO team discussed the revamped mount system set to release in this next expansion. This is especially significant because this feature has always been a bit of a dark smudge on the gameplay. To me, the mount system in LOTRO has always felt a bit tacked on. Read More...

Call of Duty Movie Gets Trademarked
by Ben Brody [ Wednesday, 7th of October 2009 - 11:26 AM ]
A Call of Duty movie?!? There's a laundry list of great games turned into horrible movies (many of them belonging to Uwe Boll) and it looks like Call of Duty may be added to that list. While it may not be for certain, a trademark filing followed by a mysterious tweet certainly make it look like it could be “in the works” at the minimum. Activision is known for trademarking far more things than necessary, however it would make sense with all the other video game movies that have been announced. The tweet is here: http://twitter. Review: Canabalt
by Kevin [ Monday, 5th of October 2009 - 05:14 PM ]
What you see below you is the scenario that Canabalt presents. You begin the game fleeing from a crumbling building and whatever has assaulted that building is following you, and all you can do is run and leap to potential safety. The counter in the upper right will tell you how far you have been able to travel in your attempted escape. The maker of the game, Adam Saltsman, made a post over at the Experimental Game Project about the original version, "I made Canabalt in 5 very long days (at least 60 hours) – 1 day at the start of the month, two days at PromJam, and then this weekend. Danny B made the music for it tonight. Read More...

Lord of the Rings Online Expansion Gets Date, Price
by Brian Bentley [ Thursday, 1st of October 2009 - 02:01 PM ]
Tuesday Turbine announced the release date and pricing for the second expansion for Lord of the Rings Online: Siege of Mirkwood. If you want to know more about the expansion itself, check out the expansion's announcement here. In that article I speculated about the digital download's price as it does not feel like a true expansion but rather the second half of the Mines of Moria expansion. As such, I had said that Siege of Mirkwood would be priced at $20 and for the most part, I was right. Sort of. Read More...

Or at least following the story of Assassin's Creed. As if you haven't been already. Am I right? Another Gift From The Gods
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 23rd of September 2009 - 08:20 PM ]
It had been rumored since the before the official announcement of the God of War Compilation. The inclusion of the God of War III demo on disc with the first two games. Then the announcement came and there was no mention at all. In fact Sony wouldn't even comment on if it was going to be or not. Which left all of us God of War fans wondering if we would get an early play of the game, outside of going to a convention. Well, today, it has been confirmed that the demo we've seen and played at E3, Comic Con, and PAX is totally going to be included on the game disc for the Compilation. A nice little bonus if I do say so. Read More...

Follow The Yellow Brick Road
by Corey Dockendorf [ Wednesday, 16th of September 2009 - 09:50 PM ]
Sometimes you find a game that really doesn't get much recognition, but it looks innovative and graphically impressive at the same time. The Wizard of Oz: Beyond The Yellow Brick Road is just that. Media Vision, producers of the Wild Arms series, is bringing this Japanese released title "RIZ-ZOWAD" to north American retailers on September 29th 2009. The Wizard of Oz is a turn based RPG title following the adventures of the Dorothy, Toto, Tin-man, Scarecrow, and Lion. I'm sure we all know the story, but this game is sure to twist it around and make it it's own. Read More...

Assassinating Variety
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 16th of September 2009 - 07:38 PM ]
In Assassin's Creed the missions were awesome the first time you played the mission type. After the 20th time you had to find an informant before you could go and assassinate someone it got very repetitive. I know I got bored with these missions very fast and wouldn't have completed the game had it not been for a very intriguing story. But that was the saving grace for me. That and my unmatched need to finish a game while grabbing all the little story elements as possible. Read More...

Review: Darkest of Days
by Binh Nguyen [ Tuesday, 8th of September 2009 - 07:54 PM ]
Time travel is the one thing that we all wish we had in today's world. It would be easy to travel back in time and change a few of the mistakes we have made. Sadly, it is only a reality in movies and video games. While this ability is not totally unfettered in Phantom EFX's newest First Person Shooter, Darkest of Days, you do get to travel back in time and see some of history's more iconic eras and famous battles. The difference between this and other time travel games is that you actually have the opportunity to change the outcome of some of these events and battles. The Characters: You used to be Alex Morris, a recently transferred solider under the command of General Custer. Read More...

PAX Hands On Impression: Aion
by Binh Nguyen [ Saturday, 5th of September 2009 - 03:16 PM ]
Arriving a bit late to PAX 2009 in Seattle, Washington and finally entering the Washington State Convention Center. The first game that I went and found was not what you would think. No, it wasn’t to the Blizzard booth to play more World of Warcraft. Instead I headed to the NCSoft booth to play their new Massive Multi-play Online game, Aion. Making a character was easier than I thought it would be and the customization was a lot more detailed as well. After making my female warrior for the game and logging in, I found the cut scene for the game action packed and was very interesting to get into. Read More...

Assassinating Never Looked So Good
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 3rd of September 2009 - 07:52 PM ]
As Ubisoft promised, just before PAX we are given the little gem of an Assassin's Creed 2 gameplay video. Why they did it before, I have no clue. But I'm not going to complain and neither will you after you get to see how awesome the new game has shaped up. So many more improvements over the first Assassin's Creed and so many new features added, not that the first one was rubbish. It wasn't at all. Ubisoft just did the sequel very right. Read More...

Collecting The God Of Trophies
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 31st of August 2009 - 04:11 PM ]
God Of War® Collection So the rumors were out there. The feedback was out there. Sony listened and is going forth with it. God of War Collection is coming this holiday season. November/December for those of you who may not get our whacking American time frames still. Before my wit of title begin people all a fluster as it has in the past, let me touch on more. Not only are the releasing both God of War and God of War II on a BluRay making it so those without backwards compatible PS3s can enjoy them, but there is so much more. Like remastered it with anti-aliased graphics running at 60 frames per second. Read More...

Blizzcon 2009 Day 2
by Binh Nguyen [ Friday, 28th of August 2009 - 07:34 PM ]
Day 1 came and gone in a flash... of light. From the opening ceremony to shopping around to visiting many of the booths to the Costume, Dance & Sound A-Like Contest at the end of the day, I was wearing out really fast. For Day 2, I knew I had to plan out what I needed to do and the time to do it in. As I rolled into the convention center, again I saw the nerds, geeks and dorks in line waiting for hours to be one of the first to get into the convention center. As I waited in line, I talked to those around me. Read More...

Co-Op Hack and Slash Gets a Penalty
by Kevin [ Tuesday, 25th of August 2009 - 07:22 PM ]
DataBox Games: Nine guys in their mid-20s on an island off Sweden. They are all attending Gotland University and working on their final thesis for their Bachelor's and Master's Degrees. Why is this important? Because much like the current wave of independent titles that flood the Xbox Marketplace - they are just a bunch of people with a love for games trying to deliver a unique experience. They don't have a major machine behind them, but they have a passion for crafting something that we can all get into and as such are definitely worth promoting around these parts. The game that they are currently working on is Penalty of Heroes, which I believe is their 26th title; most of the previous 25 have been made in ten weeks or less and have more fun crammed into them then a great majority of bigger budget titles.
