Guitar Hero's Quest To Make Things Easier
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 2nd of August 2010 - 09:40 PM ]
There has always been a huge division between Rock Band and Guitar Hero. For me it was the difficulty factor for each and not completely about the sound tracks or "story" of the career mode. For a while it was Guitar Hero that was hard just to be hard and Rock Band with some form of a story mode - at least when it comes to the off shoots. That was until I started playing Guitar Hero 5 and found that the difficulty has been toned WAY down; mainly in the way of lenience on the precision of button timing. I have played so many songs on expert and have been able to hit notes I should have never been physically able to hit do to timing and finger placement. Read More...

Comic Con Day 1: Getting The Shaft
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 29th of July 2010 - 08:21 PM ]
After the abysmal and short night for my "preview," came the first full day of Comic Con. The first day to try and find out the details on games companies were not yet ready to disclose to the public at E3. Or details that would gain better exposure at Comic Con. Like some of the announcements given around comic-based games like Spider Man: Shattered Dimensions and DC Universe Online. Makes sense that they would want to hold off for the comic fans. Armed with the knowledge of some of these announcements, I made off for their booths. Read More...

Review: Singularity
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 16th of July 2010 - 04:06 PM ]
So what would have happened in history if the U.S. wasn't a nuclear power during the cold war? Or for that matter, what if the USSR had some other form of power to lash out at the world? How would the world be changed? For the better or for the worse? Well this seems to be the main question brought up in Activision and Rave Studio's new game Singularity. You take control of U.S. Read More...

Slim XBox 360 Arcade Coming In August
by Corey Dockendorf [ Wednesday, 14th of July 2010 - 08:59 PM ]
It wasn't that long ago (*cough*...E3...*cough*) that Microsoft announced its latest XBox redesign - the Xbox 360 Slim. Well, news has been flying around that an Arcade version of the XBox 360 Slim is getting an August release date along with some even slimmer hardware. According to German Amazon.com, the XBox 360 Slim Arcade is slated for an August 20th release date, and will come with only 4GB of storage space (no news on wireless capabilities yet). Contrary to the recent inception of the XBox 360 Slim which only comes in a 250GB hard drive option. The new XBox Slim Arcade seems like it could possibly support some sort of flash memory or other small storage device as an option. Read More...

Review: Naughty Bear
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 13th of July 2010 - 10:10 PM ]
Have you ever wanted to see what goes on in the sick-and-twisted world of teddy bears? All in the hopes to understand what they think and how they interact with each other? Ever consider the fact that they may be a bit more heinous then they let on? You know, in terms of mistreating and mocking the less fortunate or oddly misshapen or deformed bears - much like the story of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Well wonder no more as Naughty Bear has come out and will give you an in-depth look into the world of the teddy bear. This is no "kiddy" game mind you as it plays out a bit like Manhunt with the cute and cuddly. Read More...

Well that would be October 5th in North America. Yep, just weeks before Namco's Splatterhouse hits the shelves making them all bloody we will be getting Enslaved: Odyssey To The West. At least that is what Namco just told the world. How to celebrate this announcement? Oh, well how about some new screen shots for the game? I just happen to have a few here for you. From the looks of things, they like blowing up our main man here. Read More...

Guitar Hero Ready To Play Sets
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 9th of July 2010 - 10:50 PM ]
In the past with rhythm/music when it was time to inform the masses of the track lists usually we just got a long list of songs and artists for us all to gawk at. Sometimes Gods like me would go through the list and try to add a link to the song so you knew what it sounded like. Sometimes the titles don't really go with the part of the song we all know. It was a nice little thing I liked to give our readers. Well from the below video it looks like Activision is stealing a page from my book like Naughty Bear did. Read More...

Review: Deathsmiles
by Michael Camacho [ Thursday, 8th of July 2010 - 05:04 PM ]
Fans of the SHMUP (Shoot 'em up) genre in the U.S. have always had a hard time in recent console generations finding easy access to titles without importing them from Japan. Thankfully, Aksys Games is trying to reverse that trend. Aksys has released their first SHMUP in the U.S. with Deathsmiles. On the development side is Cave, one of Japan's best SHMUP developers. Deathsmiles is a horizontal, side-scrolling, bullet hell SHMUP. It features young girls in Gothic Lolita outfits fighting against monsters to stop Jitterbug from opening a portal. Read More...

I Have An 8-bit Girlfriend
by Corey Dockendorf [ Wednesday, 7th of July 2010 - 04:17 PM ]
Having some trouble with the ladies? Got an XBox 360? Well lament no more, salvation is here. Brought to you by the same named company, 8-bit Girlfriend is a pix-elated text based dating simulator which you can find in the indie section of the XBox 360 Marketplace. According to the press release "It has been described as the closest thing to dating Princess Peach this side of the 360." You play Sir Knight and work to develop a relationship, using epic innuendos, with four different stereotypical RPG lady friends. A Princess, Elf, Thief and Item Shop Girl all await you on your hilarious journey which is very reminiscent of a pix-elated Leisure Suit Larry within a medieval fantasy world. Read More...

Review: Crackdown 2
by Brian Goodman [ Wednesday, 7th of July 2010 - 01:47 PM ]
Okay so quick question to you before I really get started. If you lived in a city where half the population were zombies and the other half were juvenile radical activists, would you move away? What if you had "peacekeepers" tearing through the city, killing everything, and acting like they were controlled by someone who spends a good amount of their life playing games that ingrain in their head that they can do whatever they want without consequence? Would you really want to raise a family there? I can't imagine the school districts in Pacific City being all that nice. Read More...

Silent Hill Is The New Detention Center
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 6th of July 2010 - 10:20 PM ]
So if you skip on below, after reading that is, you will see the new trailer for the next Silent Hill game nicely titled Silent Hill 8; at least the working title for now. This is what was shown to those in the horribly failed Konami Press event. At least as far as the presenters and a few titles go, it was failed. But this trailer did not seem to add to that failure at all. The trailer starts off like you would expect, a few people driving through a storm at night in the middle of nowhere. Read More...

Review: Transformers: War for Cybertron
by Binh Nguyen [ Tuesday, 6th of July 2010 - 08:18 PM ]
When Activision first announced that High Moon Studios would be making a Transformers game, I was a bit skeptical. That is, until I saw the trailer and screen shots of the game. Granted it is not the Transformers we all, or at least most of us, know and love. And no, I do not mean the recent live-action Transformers movie. I am talking about the 80's cartoon series, including the full length movie where I first cried over the fact that Optimus Prime died in the epic battle with Megatron*. Unlike the most recent movie-based Transformers game, High Moon Studio took everything we love about Transformers and created a 3rd person shooter with a great story. Read More...

Aperture Science Has Ramped Up The Tests
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Sunday, 4th of July 2010 - 06:17 PM ]
I remember way back when I first cracked open my copy of Portal on my PC. Yes I cracked open a copy of a digital download, because it fits my nostalgia. I remember enjoying each level of the game that lead up to the big showdown with GLaDOS and finding out that the cake was indeed not a lie. I got a piece when I was done and it was delicious and easy to wash down. I also remember how much fun it was that the whole game was kept simple and each level was pretty much a tutorial leading up to the final showdown. If you disagree, then you have not truly played Portal. Read More...
