E3 2013 Impression: Murdered: Soul Suspect

If there was one title I was overly excited to check out at E3 this year it was Murdered: Soul Suspect. Just the basic announcement by its self gave quite a few reasons why it could be an amazing new IP, but I got to actually sit down and check out a bit more of the game than has been shown. Here's a bit of what I am sure we will all be able to see here in the not too distant future. As has been mentioned in the announcement, we get to play as Ronan O'Connor who used to be an investigator in Salem, Massachusetts with a shady past. So just as Konami did earlier, Activision is hosting a PrE3 event. The only difference is that this 30 minute event is all about one title, Call Of Duty: Ghosts. It starts at 11am PST on the 9th, A.K.A. today. Unless you are reading this in the future then we'll just go with June 9th. Either way you should be able to see it below, even if you are viewing from the future. What are they going to cover? Back during PAX we got a little bit of hands-on with Daylight and the developers were a bit close lipped about some of the specifics even while we were playing the demo. As you move through an abandoned hospital with but your phone for light and direction you encounter cryptic things about the environment that we had to piece together to continue. A nice little feature that isn't all that common in games today and with the below E3 trailer it looks like it is going to move into their PR for the game as well. Talk about another E3 trailer that is all CGI and no game play. A new trailer for Dying Light has just been released into the wild and it surprisingly shows no game play despite the fact that it will be on deck at the convention this year. What is interesting to note though is that even though there is no game play some of the events could point toward other aspects of the game than "survive the zombie uprising." Yesterday we got a look at what Konami and its developers are bringing to E3. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 being one of the larger titles talked about and shown off. Amongst all the PR hype and a dumb looking Mega64 parody we got a nice 6 minute trailer showing the game in action. Knowing what we gamers want it would seem that Konami has clipped the trailer out and supplied it for all of our viewing pleasure. Here it is without all the other BS around it. Talk about being tight lipped. While most other larger titles are getting new trailers and information spewed all over the internet leading up to E3 it looks like The Evil Within is holding back. Well holding back a bit as you will see a few "new" screenshots below but nothing new to add to the overall game. We all know the Saints Row franchise to be over the top and not one to take its self serious. Saints Row IV is no exception to that either even though the new trailer released for E3 has it quoted as the most dramatic in the franchise. I remember my first laptop computer as if it were only a few years ago. It was probably about three inches think, felt like 20 lbs in heft, and could barely keep up with even most of the 'eMachines' currently on the market. That was a gaming laptop from 2004 mind you, but it was top of the line and one of the most powerful out there at the time. Now, almost a decade later we are getting a new gaming laptop that is not only about as powerful as a desktop, but just a bit thinner than a dime when shut and lighter than the smallest weights in my gym. Last year Telltale games received multiple Game Of The Year rewards for their work on their episodic game series The Walking Dead. Now Telltale is returning with their follow up The Wolf Among Us. The Wolf Among Us is based on the Fables comic book series written by Bill Willingham. Fables is about famous fairy tale characters that come to live in our world when their homeland is threatened by an evil entity called The Adversary. The Fairy tales have moved to our world in an attempt to hide from The Adversary and create a safe haven in New York. Looks like Techland doesn't want to stop bringing the FPS zombie games with just the Dead Island franchise. Just announced is their new IP Dying Light which, as you have guessed, is another first person zombie game in an island/jungle locale. Before we start calling them out for rehashing the same platform like other developers and franchises, let's see what they have new to offer so they can claim this as a completely new IP. As mentioned in the title, there is a "free running" mechanic in place for starters. There isn't much detail on it as Dying Light is still in the early announcement stages but what is known is that it will allow us freedom of movement throughout the vast environments. Read More...
