The State of Gaming: 2010
by Ben Brody [ Tuesday, 27th of October 2009 - 04:14 PM ]
The state of gaming as of right now is about to get a whole lot better. With the 2009 fiscal year ending in October, it's finally time to say goodbye to a fairly bleak year, and say hello to a really good year. For the purposes of this article, I am writing about the fiscal years: 2009 means October of 2008 to September of 2009 with 2010 meaning October of 2009 to September of 2010 Sure, 2009 had it's hits: Fallout 3 Left 4 Dead Dead Space Rock Band 2/Rock Band Beatles/Guitar Hero World Tour/Guitar Hero 5/Lego Rock Band/Band Hero Fable 2 Call of Duty: World at War KillZone 2 Halo Wars Resident Evil 5 Batman Arkham Asylum Halo 3: ODST They are all just some of the great games of 2009 but most of them came out right at the beginning of fiscal year 2009 (and the end of calendar year 2008) Fiscal year 2010 got started off with a bang with Uncharted 2, Ratchet and Clank: A Crank in Time, Borderlands, Assassin's Creed 2, and Forza 3, (not to mention the PSPGo, who was released on the very first day of fiscal year 2010) but will include: A New Wii? Project Natal? Sony PS3 Motion Controller Left 4 Dead 2 Modern Warfare 2 Halo Reach Splinter Cell Conviction Bayonetta Crackdown 2 Gran Turismo 5 God of War III BioShock 2 Mass Effect 2 Metal Gear Rising Max Payne 3 Deus Ex 3 Dead Rising 2 The Saboteur MAG Final Fantasy XIII/XIV Star Wars The Old Republic Those are just a few of the really exciting games that 2010 will have in store for us. Review: Saw: The Video Game
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 20th of October 2009 - 03:37 PM ]
Now I want to start out that this is not a movie based game, at least like all the other movie based games that get pumped out onto the store shelves when a new feature film or the film it is based on is about to hit the big screen. I felt we needed to open with that, because Saw: The Videogame shares only the title and is a continuation off the first film. It is not based of any of the films that have come out or are coming out. It should be considered Saw 1. Read More...

Review: Mini Ninjas
by Corey Dockendorf [ Monday, 12th of October 2009 - 12:39 PM ]
Let me start out by saying I really enjoyed this game. I was really excited about the game when I first heard about it but as time went on I became concerned it would be too childish. Yes it’s very cartoony and yes when you kill creatures they turn into fuzzy animals, but somewhere in the midst of all that I had a blast playing this game! The game-play is very simple and even the story line is not to complex, so it’s perfect for kids. With that in mind I was highly intrigued by this game. Read More...

Rock Band To Release Brütal Legend Themed DLC
by Corey Dockendorf [ Friday, 9th of October 2009 - 10:33 PM ]
My face has just been melted! Next week marks the dawning of a new era in video gaming. Double Fine Studio’s has collaborated with Harmonix and MTV's Rock Band to release three new DLC tracks with the Brütal Legend theme, and they are hot like lightning! The tracks will include: Brütal Legend Pack Motorhead - "(We Are) The Road Crew '08" Tenacious D - "The Metal" Testament - "More Than Meets the Eye" Also being released October 13th Black Tide - "Show Me the Way" Blink-182 - "What's My Age Again?" Joe Satriani - "Satch Boogie" Joe Satriani - "Surfing with the Alien" Kansas - "Icarus (Borne on the Wings of Steel)" Kansas - "Point of Know Return" L7 - "Andres" Tim Schafer, who is as much a metal head as your friend in the “Lemmy is god” shirt, had this to say in the current press release: "These are three great songs that totally capture the feeling of Brütal Legend. I can't wait to play them in Rock Band," Tim Schafer said "I've air-drummed to all of them so many times, I'm sure I'll be able to beat them on hard mode, no problem. Read More...

Review: Scribblenauts
by Brian Bentley [ Tuesday, 29th of September 2009 - 04:06 AM ]
There are times when you are playing a game that you simply say “They got it right.”  It could be during a puzzle or moving through open spaces or fighting enemy AI, but usually it only happens once or twice, or if you’re lucky, several times.  Imagine playing a game that gives you that feeling in almost every one of the 220 puzzles packaged into that tiny Nintendo DS cartridge.  Welcome to Scribblenauts. You play as Maxwell. by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 23rd of September 2009 - 05:30 PM ]
The minds at Eidos and behind Batman Arkham Asylum just don't give up. Last week with the Insane Night Map Pack and now this week with the Prey in the Darkness Map Pack. Well at least this week if you live in the United Kingdom or are willing to download across country lines. At least this is all according to the press release that was sent out about this new map. Hopefully it will be a globally released thing. In any instance, these two new challenges sound just as amazing as the last two that were released. Read More...

Review: Champions Online
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 21st of September 2009 - 08:31 PM ]
Hello and welcome to Millennium City. Don your tights, cape, and/or power armor and take up the good fight to save the city and in turn, the world. That is the premise of Cryptic Studios' new MMORPG Champions Online. Champions being a very popular table top RPG system and Cryptic being best known for their City of Heroes/Villains MMO. How could this paring go wrong at all? It didn't in the very least. Read More...

Hell Or Rapture?
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 18th of September 2009 - 04:48 PM ]
Damn you 2K and EA! Damn you both to Tartarus! Jokingly that is. But you both have made my February and thus Valentines Day/Desperation Day much more stressful than I was hoping for. Hopefully the little lady will understand why I am glued to my PS3 and PC. First Dante's Inferno and now BioShock 2 on 2/9/10. That's right. Just announced, BioShock 2 will be out simultaneously on all three platforms on the ninth day of February in our Lords 2010th year. Read More...

Review: Section 8
by Ben Brody [ Tuesday, 15th of September 2009 - 01:45 PM ]
At first glance, Section 8 looks like a Halo wannabe. At second glance it looks like a Tribes wannabe. At third glance it looks like a Battlefield wannabe. I'm not saying that a game that plays like those 3 games would be bad (heck, it'd probably be the best online shooter ever), but Section 8 seems to be lackluster in areas that each of those 3 game excelled in. The problem with that is while that Section 8 may be a solid game, the fact is that people are going to be playing the other 3 games that it is trying to emulate. Section 8 is a multiplayer only game, don't be fooled by the Corde's story campaign mode, it's basically a glorified bot mode with some random bits of story thrown about. Read More...

Batman Goes Totally Insane
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 15th of September 2009 - 03:02 AM ]
There is no denying that Batman: Arkham Asylum is an awesome game. It is what a Batman game should be. I don't think anyone could deny that. At least without getting spammed and flamed on every gaming site out there. I smell attention whoring out there now that I mentioned that. In any instance, the core game didn't end the whole experience for gamers who loved this game. There were the challenge maps after all was said and done. 16 of them for Batman if you completed a good chunk of the Riddle's riddles. Read More...

Base Jumping In Just Cause 2
by Corey Dockendorf [ Monday, 14th of September 2009 - 09:57 PM ]
I'm nauseous just watching the video. Just Cause 2, which will be release in 2010, is already turning some heads by it's awesome new style of gun toting gameplay. The game is not only beautifully rendered, but it gives such a stunning realism while in the air that players could probably spend all day base jumping off mountains or buildings and be completely satisfied by the gameplay. Honestly it reminds me of Pilot Wings for the Nintendo 64, but with more action, guns, and death from above. Check out the latest developer diary for Just Cause 2 and be amazed by the things you can do with a grappling hook and a parachute. Read More...

I See Those Wild Things Now
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 2nd of September 2009 - 01:39 AM ]
Where The Wild Things Are Screen Shots Maybe it is just me or is anyone else excited to see this film, Where The Wild Things Are. The only thing I'm not to keen on is the fact that they are making a game to cash in on my old memories. Cash in on all the new fans and kids that have never even heard of the story before. But what is new right? You have a movie that will drive people to see it, why not pump out a game? Read More...
