Review: The Amazing Spider-Man
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 6th of July 2012 - 11:12 PM ]
It's summer block buster time again in the film industry which means it's also the time we see the video games that coincide with said block busters hitting the shelves. While Marvel missed out on a proper Avengers title, Beenox and Activision made sure that they didn't miss out on a new Spider-Man title. The pair have already churned out the last couple of rather decent titles for the franchise so why not one for the film. Let's see how their faired in a genre that is usually know for making slop that just milks the films for more money. Read More...

Review: Inversion
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 6th of July 2012 - 03:55 PM ]
Inversion is a game I've been extremely hyped for since I first saw it at E3 2011. It's an action 3rd person shooter that allows you to also use gravity as a weapon, amongst other things, to fight your way through a post-alien-invasion world. Sounds new and interesting, but with a sneaky release date during this year's E3 how good could the game be? Well let me give you my ten cents on Inversion. Story Everything seems nice and normal for Davis and Leo, the main characters for the game, until out of nowhere an invasion from what is a human "alien" invasion. Read More...

Review: Ship Simulator Extremes
by Fred Buell [ Monday, 2nd of July 2012 - 11:15 PM ]
I started playing Ship Simulator Extremes with an open mind. Partly because I wasn't sure if this was going the pure Sim route with me only free riding a boat or the MS Flight route with a campaign and missions you can take. It took the latter with a campaign and various scenarios you can choose from the menu, alas the game is looking up, I think. I was wrong. So wrong. Read More...

Play The Walking Dead For Real At Comic Con
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 2nd of July 2012 - 08:37 PM ]
So by now you've most likely played Telltale's The Walking Dead, read the comic or seen the show. If anything you at least are interested in the zombie apocalypse scenario. Well here is something that those interested in any of those things mention will find pretty damn awesome. If you are at San Diego Comic Con next week you will have the chance to actually play "the game" for real. The game being that of surviving in a world where the dead have escaped the Underworld and are coming for your flesh. This isn't some small obstacle course set up as fun for promotions either. Indie Game Of The Month: A Valley Without Wind
by Fred Buell [ Thursday, 28th of June 2012 - 06:33 PM ]
For all those lovers of classic action games or side scrolling RPGs; look no further than A Valley Without Wind. When I spoke with the developers from Arcen Games at PAX East last April, they had said they loved the old 2D actioners like Super Metroid, Castlevania and so on. They said the one thing they hate about those games is 'they end.' A Valley Without Wind plays just like the aforementioned games with a hint of MMO and one huge difference. It doesn’t end and the maps a randomly generated. Read More...

Review: Sorcery
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 27th of June 2012 - 04:55 PM ]
Sorcery was shown to all of us over two years ago at E3 as a "tech demo" of sorts to show off the cool things that Sony had in store for us with motion gaming. It was the first real "wow" thing for the Move and then it kind of went silent. Then it popped back into existence all of a sudden to try and sell more of the controllers that were losing their steam in a market that doesn't really want motion controls. But does that mean that this is just some slopware? Well keep reading if you wish to know. Read More...

My Top 20 Favorite Video Game Tracks Of All Time
by Matt Waitt [ Monday, 25th of June 2012 - 06:53 PM ]
Since we do a lot of standard news and reviews on Aggrogamer I think it's time we get a little personal. I am a huge fan of music. I love listening to it and I most certainly enjoy creating it. So here are my top 20 all time favorite themes from a video game. Enjoy. Note: the first 15 are in no specific order but the top 5 are in order of epicness. Spider-Man&Venom: Maximum Carnage - "Carnage Rules" An epic opening to one of the best Spider Man games of all time Serious Sam: The First Encounter - "Fight 5" When this song pops during an epic fire fight in Serious Sam, your adrenaline surges through your veins as you enter "The Zone" Mirror's Edge - "Kate (Puzzle)" I loved Mirror's Edge and this song was so soothing and relaxing. I still listen to it a lot. Read More...

E3 2012 Impressions: Dead Space 3
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 20th of June 2012 - 11:28 PM ]
Talk about an awesome announcement at this year's E3, Dead Space 3! Yes I am one of those people out there who still love the franchise even though EA is milking it for everything. But Dead Space was one of the games in the recent years that revitalized the survival horror genre for me. Needless to say I did everything I could to fit in a viewing of the game. While originally this was shown behind closed doors at the show, recently the game's Executive Producer (Steve Papoutsis) posted a video showcasing exactly everything we all got to see on the show floor. I was nice enough to include the 20 minute game play footage show casing the single player and co-op for you below. Read More...

E3 2012 Impressions: 007 Legends
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 20th of June 2012 - 08:37 PM ]
I know what you are thinking, why is Activision trying to milk the franchise even more, especially since the last two attempts fizzled out and left a sour taste in a lot of gamers' mouths? It did for me too. So I was a bit sketchy on actually giving 007 Legends my time at E3. But I did and I'll be honest that what I saw should have been the way that the company should have gone in the first place by trying to capture the amazingness that was Golden Eye. So the demo started off with a quick overview of the first "mission" announced base on the film Moonraker. It is a more modern re-telling of the story from the film and is the first of six films that will be in the game's over all storyline. Read More...

E3 2012 Impressions: Call Of Duty: Black Ops II
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 18th of June 2012 - 05:01 PM ]
It is still no big surprise that Black Ops II was one of the bigger titles being shown at E3 this year. Even with all the gripes I hear about "another Call Of Duty game?" it still had lines snaking and wrapping the Activision booth. So that to me shows that both A), y'all like to bitch just to bitch and B) the fans obviously still want the franchise to continue on. Either way, here's a bit of what you all might have missed out on from the trailers. Before I go into some of the new stuff, it looks to play like *gasp* a CoD game. Read More...

E3 2012 Impressions: Hitman: Absolution
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 14th of June 2012 - 07:57 PM ]
Talk about a title I wish I would have had a chance to get some real hands on with at E3. Hitman: Absolution ranks right up there with Tomb Raider in level of excitement for Square Enix titles coming out. While it was on the show floor, there was not enough time in the day to play it but I did get to sit through a pretty cool demo that was geared towards showing some of the cool stuff we will get to have Agent 47 do. First and foremost I have to mention the visuals of the game. As to be expected given the six year gap between Blood Money and Absolution they have gone leaps and bounds over what we've seen in any of the previous games. Read More...

E3 2012 Hands On: Neverwinter
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 13th of June 2012 - 11:29 PM ]
Talk about another title that wasn't on my radar until I got a chance to sit down and actually have some good hands on with. The title in the instance is Neverwinter. Another attempt at making the perfect version of Dungeons&Dragons into an interactive video game. In this attempt though, I feel that they are just about spot on with what I was able to play. Just as a heads up, I was only able to get handsie with the Wizard class, although it felt more like a Sorcerer. The first thing I have to say that impressed me was the fact that the game deviates from the "tab" based combat system and takes on a very active based one. Read More...

E3 2012 Hands On: Resident Evil 6
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 12th of June 2012 - 11:04 PM ]
Before I get in depth here for what I got to see and play for Resident Evil 6 I have to start off that this whole display was split more into two different parts. So that is kind of how I will break this down. The first part was focused more on the action and cross-story play and co-op of the campaign while the second part was some good old fashioned hands on time with a bit of Leon's story. Both of which were drastically different in style. Let me start with the Cross Story play first as it will help explain the four player co-op a bit better. Read More...

E3 2012 Hands On: Darksiders II
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 11th of June 2012 - 08:54 PM ]
With a tagline of "Death Lives" you better know that I would be all over Darksiders II and boy was I at this year's E3. While THQ didn't have a huge booth to show off the game, it was being shown behind closed doors as well as playable for the first time. For the most part it plays like Darksiders, but there were some pretty cool and nice additions that I will now go over. Do not that this was not the final build of the game, but the features discussed will be making their way in. For all of those out there who played and loved Darksiders, you will be happy to know that, like mentioned the controls and movement of DS2 is almost if not exactly the same. Read More...

Skyrim Dawnguard - Skyrim's First Expansion
by Corey Dockendorf [ Wednesday, 6th of June 2012 - 04:51 AM ]
Finally! With a game this big it is a little surprising that Bethesda is ready to give us new DLC. Honestly, Skyrim has only been out since Last November (2011) and we are seven months from its release and already we are waiting for a full expansion pack called Dawnguard. Prepare yourself Dovakhiin; there are vampires in the woods.Seriously, check out the video below. There are people that haven't even beaten the game yet (*cough* Quiglin *cough*) that adding this type of expansion pack is huge for. Read More...
