So the 120gb PS3 Slim is out, how does it compare to the older, fatter, more mature PS3? Well the first thing I noticed was, “Damn, that box is a lot smaller than my old PS3's box”. The next thing I noticed was, “Damn, this is a lot lighter than my old PS3.” The lighter, smaller PS3 is a little wider than the old PS3, but it's slightly wider girth is greatly overshadowed by the smaller height, the lower profile, and the overall sleek, matte black, design. The PS3 sports a new 45nm processor, which, technical differences which I will not get into aside, requires less power. The power cord itself is just a standard unpolarized C8 cord (non-technical term: the same one the PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, SNES, NES, 3DO, etc all use), as opposed to the beefier C13 (aka IEC, nontechnical term: the one that your PC, monitor, and TV use) that the older PS3 uses. Well, they have heard your cries and have offered up a wealth of information courtesy of the official blog. The list of features are as follows: Universal Game Launching: "You can now launch into any PlayStation 3 game directly from Home. Titles that fully support game launching (like Street Fighter 4 and Far Cry 2) will be identified by separate icons that appear over an avatar's head and will have varying degrees of additional multiplayer functionality built in. Sack it to Me – the "Big Announcements" Edition You ever hop into the level creator for LittleBigPlanet and feel like there was something missing. Something that stopped you from being able to faithfully recreate the entire game of Super Mario Bros. using their sandbox. Something you couldn't quite place your finger on. Hades Boss Fight Round 2 So on Monday we were able to give you a nice view of what the Lord of the Dead would be looking like. We've seen him only in a few minor shots in the God of War FMVs before that. But now we get one further peek at how this epic boss/boss fight will look and feel. So the PS3 Slim turned out to be announced today, as earlier rumored. Along with the news comes an immediate $100 price drop on both existing systems, with the 80gb dropping to $299.99 and the 160gb dropping to $399.99. The Slim will debut the first week of September and will also carry the $299.99 price tag. The technical differences between the Slim and the Fat are few and far between, the Slim keeps the same features such as Blu Ray, WiFi, and upgradeable hard drive. Read More...

Render Of Hades By the Gods, the more that is pumped out in the God of War fankits, the more and more excited and giddy I get. The PlayStation 3's price that is. While North America might not see a price drop til September 8th, prices of Sony's oft-maligned console have fallen €100 across many European stores. The PlayStation 3 Slim may be coming and this may be a way of attempting to clear out current inventories of old dusty 80gb's. The PS3 Slim is a reality, and it's getting closer and closer to happening, at least according to the latest rumors. Gamescom is taking place later this month, and Sony will hold its conference on August 18th, which is when the PS3 Slim is rumored to be debuted. The rumored release date is September 2nd, but the more important thing, is that the price is allegedly going to be €299.99, which depending on what country you get it in, is €50-€100 less than the current 80gb model.
