EA Giving APB Refunds?
by Corey Dockendorf [ Tuesday, 28th of September 2010 - 06:22 PM ]
Did you purchase APB? Were you mad that you spent $50 on a game with 50 hours of playtime and never had the chance to play the whole time (really?). Well you and the 130,000 (so they say) like you are all experiencing the heartache from the closing of this Action-MMO. Fear not my friends there is a glimmer of hope for a few of you out there. First off let's start off by saying, if you bought APB on Steam you will not be able to get a refund (from Steam). Steam explicitly notifies its players they do not offer refunds. Read More...

Mini Review: Dead Rising 2: Case Zero
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 27th of September 2010 - 09:02 PM ]
On a leisurely escape from zombie-infested Las Vegas, Chuck and Katey Greene stop in the quiet town of Still Creek, just 46 miles outside of the metropolis. Katey is infected, but the constant supply of Zombrex is keeping that at bay. That is, until their car is stolen while stopping for a quick gas break. What kind of misadventures could that lead to? Not a bad set up for the prologue to Dead Rising 2, huh? Read More...

Michael Jackson Gets His Own Planet
by Corey Dockendorf [ Thursday, 23rd of September 2010 - 10:59 PM ]
For the first time in a long time, I am speechless. A game was announced that made me stare at my laptop and honestly not even know what to say. According to a press release from Bastion and SEE Virtual Worlds, they have signed a deal with Micheal Jackson's Estate and will be releasing an MMO called Planet Michael in 2011 for the Entropia Universe. This is the same company that is behind the Entropia Engine and another sci-fi MMORPG Planet Calypso (see a theme here?). Read More...

Review: Eagle Eye Converter
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 23rd of September 2010 - 05:06 PM ]
There are a lot of FPS players out there who whole heartedly believe that the only way to play them is the way they were originally designed; with a keyboard and mouse. If you are not one of these people, I am sure that you know at least one. Pretty much all the FPS players I know are purist when it comes to controlling their shooters. But what about those shooters that come out exclusively for consoles? Or those players who do not have a PC capable of some of the higher end FPSs but have a console that can? Read More...

This Is What BioShock Infinite's Game Play Looks Like
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 22nd of September 2010 - 06:41 PM ]
The tease is finally over. Irrational Games has finally let loose the game play footage that has been seen by so few before today. Now it is open to the world in general; even though it was suppose to be only on XBox Live today and then open tomorrow. How did Irrational not think someone was going to snag the clip off their XBox to share with the rest of us fans chomping at the bit to see what new things they have come up with? Anyways, the almost ten minutes of footage looks amazing. It is hard to gauge where all of this action is taking place in the game though. Read More...

APB Servers Shut Down
by Corey Dockendorf [ Wednesday, 22nd of September 2010 - 03:47 PM ]
Looks like you need more than a phenomenal character customization engine to survive in this gaming industry. All Points Bulletin servers have been shut down only three months after launch. Only a month ago Scottish game developer Real Time Worlds cut its staff down to 50 people (just enough to keep the servers running) and began looking for a possible buyer to take over APB. When no one showed up to take over the IP, it was time to let go. According to Real Time Games, APB had about 130,000 registered users with an average play time of four hours per week and averaging $28 per month. Read More...

WCG Ultimate Gamer 2: Episode 5 - Becoming Less Douchie
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 21st of September 2010 - 10:08 PM ]
Wow, it is hard to believe that we are down to almost half the cast left now, isn't it? Just one more episode and then things are suppose to get really crazy. Well, that is, if everything runs the same way it did last season. So what happened last episode in case you didn't catch it? Well read below for the recap and explanation on how things got less douchie. "Disclaimer" I will make it no secret that I tried out for this season and was not selected due to XBox Live issues during game analysis. I was only able to connect for one of the sessions, and thus disqualified. Read More...

Give Indie Games Some Love
by Brian Bentley [ Tuesday, 21st of September 2010 - 04:01 PM ]
Despite what the actual weather says or does, the summer season is about to close out for 2010. As was the case the last summer, independent developers have once again formed a coalition to digitally distribute their work to the masses in an attempt to fight hunger - most likely their own. In all seriousness, this is an excellent chance to get your hands on some fantastic indie titles and put money directly in the hands of the men and women putting their livelihoods on the line to push the envelope of innovation in gaming. You can pick up last year's six games in the Classic pack, this year's new six games in the summer pack or all twelve games in the Mega-Love Pack for $20, $20 and $30, respectively. It's only until Wednesday so get out your wallets immediately! Read More...

Always Look On The 'Light' Side Of Life
by Corey Dockendorf [ Monday, 20th of September 2010 - 06:29 PM ]
Today's developer diary from BioWare highlights Star Wars: The Old Republic's Jedi class, giving us a brief look into class versatility and the separate experiences players will get through both of the sub-classes, Knight and Consular. You don't necessarily have to be the goody goody Jedi (although you can), you will have options to play the more forceful and vengeful Jedi as well. From this video we also can see how diverse the Jedi class is, from playing the sneaky rogue style of game play, or straight on damage dealer, Jedi have a little of something for everyone. The Lightsaber battles are probably the largest parts of the Star Wars series, and by the look of this video, BioWare seems to be putting that extra polish on, and making sure players get the full Lightsaber dueling experience. Diablo III Looks Healthy
by Corey Dockendorf [ Tuesday, 14th of September 2010 - 03:59 PM ]
The Diablo III website was just updated recently with some info about Health in game. Now I know what you're all saying, "We know how health works, kill baddies, pick up orbs and regain health." While this mechanic remains true, we do get a few more details on boss encounters and strategies pertaining to gaining health throughout Sanctuary. Major boss fights make unique use of health globes. Each boss battle includes a custom-designed means of utilizing these globes to regain health. Read More...

Viva La Claptrap Revolution!
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 10th of September 2010 - 07:52 PM ]
Back in early August we mentioned the new DLC for Borderlands, Claptrap New Robot Revolution. It is bring a bunch of additions to the game, as we mentioned, as well as being included in the GOTY Edition, also mentioned. So what new do we have for you? Not a solid release date, but I'm willing to bet on 9/14, 9/21 or 9/28 if 2K and Gearbox want to keep their September time frame originally mentioned. It is, as you've most likely glanced already, a set of new screens and posters for the DLC. Nothing too revealing, but something to make you look at and give a thought about dropping the $9. Portal 2 Co-Op Trailer Gets Extended
by Binh Nguyen [ Friday, 10th of September 2010 - 05:33 PM ]
I am sure we have seen the multitude of videos and screen shots of Portal 2 in the last few weeks. Yesterday Valve released the extended trailer for the co-op mode of Portal 2. Something that was shown at PAX Prime this past week at Seattle. It is worth a watch as it showcases that teamwork that is the only way to get pass certain levels. I'm not sure if they will include the high-five feature but it would be funny if you were able to self high-five yourself. My Take: I seriously cannot wait for Portal 2 to come out as I am a huge fan of the first one. Read More...

Review: Mafia II
by Binh Nguyen [ Thursday, 9th of September 2010 - 11:24 PM ]
From the moment my character woke up in the world of Mafia II, I was swimming in rich ambiance. 2K Czech did everything to put you directly into the life of Vito Scaletta. Waking up in your boxers and 'wife-beater' shirt, your buddy Joe is calling you with your next 'job'. This gives you an immediate sense of who you are that really draws you into this character. This is further supported by great narration and a robust storyline, but that is only a part of what happens in Mafia II. Let's talk about everything else. Read More...
