Review: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 11th of November 2010 - 10:08 PM ]
The Heavens and Earth have been divided and the darkness has taken over. Send in the holy crusaders to help purge the land of all things evil and open up the pathway to Heaven and God. In this case the crusader is Gabriel Belmont, a man out for vengeance as the dark powers killed his wife and have been destroying his homeland. Who better to take up the charge? A man with nothing personal to lose but holds the fate of the universe in his hands. Read More...

Review: Rock Band 3 [Gamer Version]
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 26th of October 2010 - 08:53 PM ]
So here we go again. Another rhythm game comes to the market, only this time it is one that is truly trying to innovate the genre. I am talking in more ways than just trying to add new ways to play songs in the way of four guitars or adding challenges to earn more points and "stars." Though we already knew that Rock Band 3 was adding in a new instrument and a "Learn To Play Real Instruments" mode, it's how they went about it that changes the genre. This of course makes Rock Band 3 more than just another game. Being that there is so much going on with Rock Band 3, I've decided to break it up into two reviews. Read More...

Nintendo Announces Red, Will See Green This Holiday Season
by Brian Bentley [ Thursday, 21st of October 2010 - 05:29 PM ]
Today, Nintendo announced new holiday bundles to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. release on the NES. Going "Mario-red," the new Wii and DSi XL will each have Mario games bundled in with them to complete the experience. Nintendo also unveiled the new Wii-mote with the Wii Motion Plus technology built into the original frame. Okay, so once I got over the initial lust for the little red console, I noticed little nuances that I know will have no bearing on what actually will happen in real life, but I thought worth mentioning.    First, we start with the most obvious: the new Wii-mote. Review: Guitar Hero: Warriors Of Rock
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 6th of October 2010 - 04:54 PM ]
In the godly plane of rock, an epic battle rages on. A battle between the Demigod of Rock - a being of all things that are rock - and the horrid, mechanical Beast - a being of everything that apparently sucks in music. Up until now, Gene Simmons the Demigod of Rock has prevailed. That is, up until now when the Beast finally bested the Demigod and locked him away. Now it is up to the chosen eight warriors of rock to come to power and release the Demigod so he can save music from a teenie-bop-emo-crap-storm it will become. Yes, that is the shortened version of the new story mode for Guitar Hero: Warriors Of Rock, the recent iteration to the Guitar Hero franchise. Read More...

Review: Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 30th of September 2010 - 09:05 PM ]
Hey true believers! It looks like our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is back into the action saving not only New York, but four different dimensions worth of New York and realities. All after a small fight with Mysterio where Spider Man shatters the "Tablet of Order and Chaos," a few of the villains in each dimension find a chunk and get super-charged. With the help of Madame Web, each Spider-Man needs to collect these tablet pieces to make sure all reality doesn't crumble. You'd think a tablet with that power wouldn't be housed in a basic museum in New York, but then we wouldn't have the story. Read More...

EA Giving APB Refunds?
by Corey Dockendorf [ Tuesday, 28th of September 2010 - 06:22 PM ]
Did you purchase APB? Were you mad that you spent $50 on a game with 50 hours of playtime and never had the chance to play the whole time (really?). Well you and the 130,000 (so they say) like you are all experiencing the heartache from the closing of this Action-MMO. Fear not my friends there is a glimmer of hope for a few of you out there. First off let's start off by saying, if you bought APB on Steam you will not be able to get a refund (from Steam). Steam explicitly notifies its players they do not offer refunds. Read More...

APB Servers Shut Down
by Corey Dockendorf [ Wednesday, 22nd of September 2010 - 03:47 PM ]
Looks like you need more than a phenomenal character customization engine to survive in this gaming industry. All Points Bulletin servers have been shut down only three months after launch. Only a month ago Scottish game developer Real Time Worlds cut its staff down to 50 people (just enough to keep the servers running) and began looking for a possible buyer to take over APB. When no one showed up to take over the IP, it was time to let go. According to Real Time Games, APB had about 130,000 registered users with an average play time of four hours per week and averaging $28 per month. Read More...

Viva La Claptrap Revolution!
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 10th of September 2010 - 07:52 PM ]
Back in early August we mentioned the new DLC for Borderlands, Claptrap New Robot Revolution. It is bring a bunch of additions to the game, as we mentioned, as well as being included in the GOTY Edition, also mentioned. So what new do we have for you? Not a solid release date, but I'm willing to bet on 9/14, 9/21 or 9/28 if 2K and Gearbox want to keep their September time frame originally mentioned. It is, as you've most likely glanced already, a set of new screens and posters for the DLC. Nothing too revealing, but something to make you look at and give a thought about dropping the $9. 'New' View of Rock Band 3's Keyboards
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 10th of September 2010 - 03:13 PM ]
We are getting closer to the launch of Rock Band 3 every day. That is the way time works. It also seems with each passing day some new bit of news about the keyboard peripheral show up, or at least gets rehashed with the guise of being new. It's either that or the guys over at Harmonix don't think that we gamers really understand that the new keyboards are coming out and will change part of the way the game is played. Stating all of that, here is yet another video showcasing the new keyboards for Rock Band 3. This time with one of the developers giving you the run down. Read More...

Nintendo Drops Portable Price For Holidays
by Brian Bentley [ Tuesday, 31st of August 2010 - 08:34 PM ]
As if Nintendo didn't already control enough of the portable console market, they wanted to really push the Nintendo DSi and DSi XL handhelds this holiday season by reducing prices. Beginning on September 12th, the Nintendo DSi will drop to $149.99 and the DSi XL will drop to $169.99. The DS Lite will continue at the $129.99 price point. As always, the marketing team over at Nintendo of America (NOA) makes a brilliant move: drop the price of the DSi and DSi XL now in September in order to sell more units for Holiday 2010. Borderlands Giving Out DLC For Free
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 31st of August 2010 - 02:42 PM ]
Isn't it always the case now? Everyone is out to make a buck one way or another at the expense of our pockets. The recent price hike for XBL is a good example of that. What you may have missed is the push for Game of the Year (GOTY) or Special Edition versions of games that come loaded with all that expensive DLC pumped out after game launch. Obviously this is simply a play to grab all the people who didn't shell out cash to make sure the DLC was created. LittleBigPlanet and Batman: Arkham Asylum are great examples here of this. Nintendo Reminds Us They Have Games
by Brian Bentley [ Wednesday, 18th of August 2010 - 05:19 PM ]
With Gamescom 2010 getting into full swing with news and announcements, Nintendo decided they wanted to remind its consumers that they too have games coming out this fall and that you won't want to miss them. Two games in particular were given solid release dates. Kirby's Epic Yarn and Donkey Kong Country Returns were big hits at E3 this year and have been generating huge buzz for their impending arrival. While I could never get close enough to play Kirby's Epic Yarn, I did have an opportunity to play with our large, simian friend. If you didn't catch my thoughts in our E3 podcasts, I can tell you here that the game is addictive... Read More...

Aggrocast Episode Seventy Five: E3 2010 Wrap-Up
by Brian Bentley [ Monday, 16th of August 2010 - 01:55 PM ]
Despite reports that the AggroCast team is dead, we are still alive and kicking...and playing games to boot. While we catch up on our lives during this summer, you too can catch up with some previously unreleased episodes of the AggroCast. Start with Episode 75, the one where David, Binh and Brian wrap up E3 2010. The team spent their last day at E3 scrambling around looking and playing anything they could get their grubby little hands on. This list includes some of the latest games from Bethesda and Square-Enix's Final Fantasy XIV. Read More...
