HeroQuest
Take up the game of HeroQuest again, with the announcement that is here for HeroQuest: Digital Edition
It's going to be time to re-enter a dungeon and head back to the late '80s with the announcement we have for HeroQuest: Digital Edition. Yes, the classic tabletop board game is going digital, with Nomad Games and Balor Games bringing the epic quests to life for us all on the PC. All set to hit our systems in 2027 when it is ready, so we have some time to gather our party for the fun. Or to hammer out a few more rounds of the classic version of HeroQuest if you still manage to have the older version of the game. You can decide, but that won't change the fact that we are getting a digital version of the game, and one that doesn't look like it is going to just be us running around the digital version of the dungeons from the folding cardboard mats.
For those who might've missed out on HeroQuest before now, this was a Dungeons & Dragons style game where you played as one of four heroes, with another playing as the main villain of the dungeon. The digital version of the game has the same thing going on, where we will be able to play as the Barbarian, Dwarf, Elf, or Wizard in a co-op setting, with a fifth player taking on the role of Zargon to toss all of the challenges at our players. HeroQuest: Digital Edition will also allow for a single-player option to control all of the characters as well. Given that this is a turn-based game where the dice can control all of the outcomes, it does feel like it would fit perfectly into that role too. All as we play with the pre-generated quests that came in the game, or use the Quest Editor feature to keep the fun going and keep all of the other players out there on their toes. Almost exactly like the real version, just with a bit more flair and less cleanup after the games have ended. Have a small look at it all now.
HeroQuest: Digital Edition — Announcement
Nomad Games and Balor Games are thrilled to reveal HeroQuest: Digital Edition, an officially licensed adaptation of HeroQuest, the iconic tabletop classic that helped define the dungeon-crawling adventure genre. Unveiled during The MIX Fall Showcase, HeroQuest: Digital Edition brings the action to PC via Steam in 2027, with a Closed Beta playtest coming soon.
An enduring tabletop legacy is reborn as an immersive digital adventure with HeroQuest: Digital Edition. The sinister Dread sorcerer Zargon seeks to conquer the Realm, and only four brave heroes stand in his way. Players will lead the Barbarian, Dwarf, Elf, and Wizard on a perilous quest into the dungeon to destroy the forces of Dread and protect the Realm. Players can also take on the role of Zargon, plotting and scheming behind the scenes to strike down the opposing fellowship.
HeroQuest: Digital Edition offers flexible play for up to five players, from commanding an entire party of heroes solo to online co-op for up to four players controlling the heroes, with a fifth player able to take on the role of Zargon if they so should choose to side with evil. Through tactical turn-based combat, players roll the dice of fate to determine their path forward. Survival depends on the fellowship working together, using each hero’s unique strengths and carefully positioning the party to overcome Zargon’s challenges. Players can also let their creativity run riot with the Quest Editor to craft their own quests, or explore those forged by the community through built-in mod.io integration, allowing access to endless adventures.
Did you have a chance to play the original HeroQuest back in the '80s? Are you excited to see the board game brought into the digital space to allow for more of the fun? How will the villain play out if we do go with the solo option for the heroic side of the game? How long will it take before we see many popular dungeons in literature brought into the digital space of this title? Let's talk it all out in the comment section down the page here. I'm excited to see that we're getting the HeroQuest: Digital Edition, and I'll be dropping all that I can for the game going forward. Watch for it all here on the site and follow all of our socials to see when that all flows out there. Even if we do need to wait until next year to see the full game, I have a feeling it is going to be well worth the wait. That, or have us all digging through our closets for the physical version of the game that we might have in storage.
