Stupid Never Dies
Have a new look at the visual style Stupid Never Dies is going to give us when it is finally time to learn that Stupid Never Dies
We have had many looks at the different aspects of Stupid Never Dies as we lead up to the October 21st launch of the game on the PS5 and PC. The minds over at GPTRACK50 haven't held back on any of that fun. Now, it is time for them to show us a bit more of the art style of Stupid Never Dies and the various ways they are going to make the game pop. Not just in the way of the bright colors and flashy lighting, but also in how some of the game designs have influenced how some of the monsters look in the world. Not just that, but all the levels we'll be fighting through with Davy, and the various collectibles we'll score along the way. Enough of all of the words, though. Let us have a look at the Art of the game and how it is going to inform us all further.
If you have somehow missed out on all of the visuals for Stupid Never Dies before this new look, the game is certainly leaning into the neo-punk look of things out there. Along with that, we are getting a whole lot of colors and art drawn as it would be from an emotionally stunted youth in the real world. That is how we are explaining a lot of the flair and the various collectibles in the game, as they are designed around things that Davy would be making out there. Then we look at the creatures and the world of the game. All of them are based on things in the real world, lore, or gaming tropes that will help us all identify things out there in Stupid Never Dies. All with the similar cell-shading flair on top of it all. Speaking of on top, that is part of the design system as well as the gameplay mechanics of the game. The tech will be on top of all of the creatures that we get to see and fight to help them better stand out and be identified, along with explaining how Davy can collect the various bits as we fight our way right through it all. Have a deeper look with the game director in the following video we have for this showcase.
Stupid Never Dies — Deep Bite #4: Art
Wonder how Stupid Never Dies got its signature visual style? In a new video, Producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi takes a deeper bite into the visual style of their upcoming pop-punk action RPG, Stupid Never Dies, ahead of its launch on PC and PS5 next week on October 21.
GPTRACK50 wanted to create a visual style that stood out from the crowd, much like the game’s protagonist, Davy – nothing too polished, but rebellious, emotional, impactful, and something that leaves a lasting impression. The team drew upon their neo-pop punk theme using colours and styles that tied into the nostalgic feel of that sound. Weaving together a hand-drawn style with 3D models through carefully constructed linework and shadows, and blending classically familiar with modern elements to create something that felt dynamic and hand-crafted.
Over Technology (OT) is a core mechanic to Davy’s – and his enemies’ – arsenal, so integrating it organically into the monster designs was key. To make enemy power easily identifiable by the player, the more powerful the enemy, the more dangerous the dungeon, and the more menacing the visuals become.
Since the story is from Davy’s perspective, the team wanted to make the player feel immersed in his mind. It was decided that the UI and other visual details should look as if they were things that Davy would have lying around, or drawn by himself.
Did you expect that Stupid Never Dies would stick to the traditional art progress as many other games, or were you hoping something was going on to make it all stand out? Will the Over Technology make better sense to you when you are playing the game, or did the video above explain it well for you to enjoy? Was it a big surprise that we are getting badges and stickers from Davy's point of view in the game, or did you think that was part of the twisted worlds that we will be exploring as we fight for Juliet? Let us discuss it all in the comment section down the page here until the game fully launches. We will have more for Stupid Never Dies in the coming week, so please come back to the website to see it all and explore all that we can for it. You can follow along on all of our social channels as well, so you are never blind to when this news comes out there. I know you will be glad that you did.
