WCG Ultimate Gamer 2: Episode 7 - Lost The Need To Watch
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 4th of October 2010 - 06:11 PM ]
It's gauntlet time! We have the last six contestants picked and ready and rearing to go for the gold. Finally, after all the bitching and whining the players are going to be forced to show their skills and no longer rely on luck to pull them through. Let's face it - some of them got along based on luck or outside help. Time to nut up or shut up. It's time for the "legendary" gauntlet. Read More…

Blizzard Officially Announces Cataclysm Release Date
by Corey Dockendorf [ Monday, 4th of October 2010 - 03:07 PM ]
Blizzard finally graces us with the official announcement for the release of World of Warcraft: Cataclsym. I'm pretty sure everyone has figured it out by now, but it's nice to see that now it's "Official" and no longer simply speculation. Deathwing is coming and he's bringing a boat load of destruction with him. With an increase of the level cap to 85, two new races and a complete restructure of the old world, this is revving up to probably be the best expansion yet. So if you haven't already reserved your pre-order, digital download or time off from work on December 8th, you have plenty of time to make your arrangements and hit the ground running when the expansion comes out. Review: Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 30th of September 2010 - 09:05 PM ]
Hey true believers! It looks like our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is back into the action saving not only New York, but four different dimensions worth of New York and realities. All after a small fight with Mysterio where Spider Man shatters the "Tablet of Order and Chaos," a few of the villains in each dimension find a chunk and get super-charged. With the help of Madame Web, each Spider-Man needs to collect these tablet pieces to make sure all reality doesn't crumble. You'd think a tablet with that power wouldn't be housed in a basic museum in New York, but then we wouldn't have the story. Read More…

Fable III Is Star Studded
by Corey Dockendorf [ Wednesday, 29th of September 2010 - 08:33 PM ]
Fable III is drawing near, and recently we got a video diary which highlighted one of the most important pieces of the game, the cast. With a little bit of background from the characters as told by their voice over counterparts, this video gives us more of a deeper view into the world of Albion. Check out the video after the jump. With such amazing talent like Michael Fassbender, Stephen Fry, Simon Pegg, Sir Ben Kingsley, John Cleese, Zoë Wanamaker, Bernard Hill and Nicholas Hoult, players can expect hilarity and some fantastic voice over work. You can tell a lot about a video game, especially by its cast. Read More…

EA Giving APB Refunds?
by Corey Dockendorf [ Tuesday, 28th of September 2010 - 06:22 PM ]
Did you purchase APB? Were you mad that you spent $50 on a game with 50 hours of playtime and never had the chance to play the whole time (really?). Well you and the 130,000 (so they say) like you are all experiencing the heartache from the closing of this Action-MMO. Fear not my friends there is a glimmer of hope for a few of you out there. First off let's start off by saying, if you bought APB on Steam you will not be able to get a refund (from Steam). Steam explicitly notifies its players they do not offer refunds. Read More…

WCG Ultimate Gamer 2: Episode 6 - Being A Payback Bitch
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 28th of September 2010 - 03:35 PM ]
Here we go. From here on we are in the gauntlet of the final six. Yea, that is right; we are down to half of the original cast now. It seems like it is happening fast here. So who went home? How did it all go down? Who got all bitchy? Read on for the recap and run down. Not to mention another opportunity to watch Timmy Dance. "Disclaimer" I will make it no secret that I tried out for this season and was not selected due to XBox Live issues during game analysis. I was only able to connect for one of the sessions, and thus disqualified. Read More…

Mini Review: Dead Rising 2: Case Zero
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 27th of September 2010 - 09:02 PM ]
On a leisurely escape from zombie-infested Las Vegas, Chuck and Katey Greene stop in the quiet town of Still Creek, just 46 miles outside of the metropolis. Katey is infected, but the constant supply of Zombrex is keeping that at bay. That is, until their car is stolen while stopping for a quick gas break. What kind of misadventures could that lead to? Not a bad set up for the prologue to Dead Rising 2, huh? Read More…

Michael Jackson Gets His Own Planet
by Corey Dockendorf [ Thursday, 23rd of September 2010 - 10:59 PM ]
For the first time in a long time, I am speechless. A game was announced that made me stare at my laptop and honestly not even know what to say. According to a press release from Bastion and SEE Virtual Worlds, they have signed a deal with Micheal Jackson's Estate and will be releasing an MMO called Planet Michael in 2011 for the Entropia Universe. This is the same company that is behind the Entropia Engine and another sci-fi MMORPG Planet Calypso (see a theme here?). Read More…

Review: Eagle Eye Converter
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 23rd of September 2010 - 05:06 PM ]
There are a lot of FPS players out there who whole heartedly believe that the only way to play them is the way they were originally designed; with a keyboard and mouse. If you are not one of these people, I am sure that you know at least one. Pretty much all the FPS players I know are purist when it comes to controlling their shooters. But what about those shooters that come out exclusively for consoles? Or those players who do not have a PC capable of some of the higher end FPSs but have a console that can? Read More…

This Is What BioShock Infinite's Game Play Looks Like
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 22nd of September 2010 - 06:41 PM ]
The tease is finally over. Irrational Games has finally let loose the game play footage that has been seen by so few before today. Now it is open to the world in general; even though it was suppose to be only on XBox Live today and then open tomorrow. How did Irrational not think someone was going to snag the clip off their XBox to share with the rest of us fans chomping at the bit to see what new things they have come up with? Anyways, the almost ten minutes of footage looks amazing. It is hard to gauge where all of this action is taking place in the game though. Read More…

APB Servers Shut Down
by Corey Dockendorf [ Wednesday, 22nd of September 2010 - 03:47 PM ]
Looks like you need more than a phenomenal character customization engine to survive in this gaming industry. All Points Bulletin servers have been shut down only three months after launch. Only a month ago Scottish game developer Real Time Worlds cut its staff down to 50 people (just enough to keep the servers running) and began looking for a possible buyer to take over APB. When no one showed up to take over the IP, it was time to let go. According to Real Time Games, APB had about 130,000 registered users with an average play time of four hours per week and averaging $28 per month. Read More…

WCG Ultimate Gamer 2: Episode 5 - Becoming Less Douchie
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 21st of September 2010 - 10:08 PM ]
Wow, it is hard to believe that we are down to almost half the cast left now, isn't it? Just one more episode and then things are suppose to get really crazy. Well, that is, if everything runs the same way it did last season. So what happened last episode in case you didn't catch it? Well read below for the recap and explanation on how things got less douchie. "Disclaimer" I will make it no secret that I tried out for this season and was not selected due to XBox Live issues during game analysis. I was only able to connect for one of the sessions, and thus disqualified. Read More…

Give Indie Games Some Love
by Brian Bentley [ Tuesday, 21st of September 2010 - 04:01 PM ]
Despite what the actual weather says or does, the summer season is about to close out for 2010. As was the case the last summer, independent developers have once again formed a coalition to digitally distribute their work to the masses in an attempt to fight hunger - most likely their own. In all seriousness, this is an excellent chance to get your hands on some fantastic indie titles and put money directly in the hands of the men and women putting their livelihoods on the line to push the envelope of innovation in gaming. You can pick up last year's six games in the Classic pack, this year's new six games in the summer pack or all twelve games in the Mega-Love Pack for $20, $20 and $30, respectively. It's only until Wednesday so get out your wallets immediately! Read More…

Always Look On The 'Light' Side Of Life
by Corey Dockendorf [ Monday, 20th of September 2010 - 06:29 PM ]
Today's developer diary from BioWare highlights Star Wars: The Old Republic's Jedi class, giving us a brief look into class versatility and the separate experiences players will get through both of the sub-classes, Knight and Consular. You don't necessarily have to be the goody goody Jedi (although you can), you will have options to play the more forceful and vengeful Jedi as well. From this video we also can see how diverse the Jedi class is, from playing the sneaky rogue style of game play, or straight on damage dealer, Jedi have a little of something for everyone. The Lightsaber battles are probably the largest parts of the Star Wars series, and by the look of this video, BioWare seems to be putting that extra polish on, and making sure players get the full Lightsaber dueling experience.
