The Sandbox Narrative

There have been more open world, sandbox style adventures in recent memory than ever before. Non-linear gameplay is fully embraced and every videogame genre has felt its influence at one point or another. The ability to turn off, or flat out ignore mission objectives is a must in today's titles and the unlimited access to a living, breathing game world is embraced without reservation. How often, however, have we allowed that freedom to take the place of a well crafted and well explored story? Grand Theft Auto is usually quoted as a landmark franchise for the ability to blend an open and emergent gameplay with a dedicated and evolving storyline. Read More...

Comic Con Issue #2

Friday: XBox and PlayStation Day After fixing the few technical issues with Issue #1, we move onto the next day. A day dedicated primarily to what two of the largest companies and platforms brought to show off the gaming world. PlayStation and Xbox in case you couldn't figure it out. For some reason Nintendo was completely void of the con, outside of the companies showing off Wii and DS games they have coming out. But that's not the point here. We got to see a few things, meet a few celebrities, as well as end the night hanging with some of The Guild actors, Sony Hardware people, and the guys from the Totally Rad Show. Read More...

Video game site lets players bet on their skills Looks like there is a new site for gamers to literally put their money where their mouth is. Well more literal that the phase is commonly used. Who'd want to put all that dirty cash in their mouths? Sure I hope none of those Halo fanboys/fangirls. I do hope. It was just announced that a new site, BringIt.com, is about to come out of beta and allow for gamers to compete against each other for more than just their pride, but their cold hard cash. Brütal Legend Take Two As you may have known if you follow Corey or myself on Twitter at all, you would have seen how mush the PR train was rolling at Comic Con this year. It was Huge! But it wasn't just about the free stuff they were giving out or events they were putting on. They also had an updated version of the demo for this game. They also had the game on a few more platforms for us all to take in. Not to mention the fact that they had more kiosks to play on, thus shorter lines and waiting than at E3. Read More...

Comic Con '09 Hands-On Impressions of Dante's Inferno

Dante's Inferno So at E3 this year, we were all given some great teases as to what to expect for Dante's Inferno from EA. All in the form of an extended trailer and a little bit of watching the designers play through a level showing off their game. No solid hands on experience, but it was still a great sight to see. But it did leave me wanting more to really get a feel for the game. Something EA was obviously waiting to let people do at Comic Con. Read More...

The Rock Band Network is Coming Something that was talked about way back when the Original Rock Band came to market has just been previewed online. What is this I speak of? Well the ability for users to make their own songs and get them into Rock Band to help promote underground bands using the game. Also to make a little scratch for the struggling artists as well. The Mothership Has Landed

Fallout 3 Mothership Zeta DLC Here is an interesting way to conclude the reign of DLC for Fallout 3. Let's beam people onto an alien mothership that has crashed on the planet after tricking them into thinking there is a distress call emanating from it. Things get really exciting when they find out that they must to fight their way to the helm of the ship to secure it, their lives and an escape route. An interesting twist to things, but I think some of the features that are offered up are going to be the bigger selling point. After being beamed aboard, players will get to add the alien technology to their arsenal of weapons. Read More...

Turtle Power!

In an awesome move by Ubisoft and XBox Live, we can relive all our classic arcade days of 4-player fighting action with TMNT Turtles In Time. Available August 5th for $15, it will be an arcade lovers dream. The great part about this whole ordeal is not only is the game the same side scrolling, beat-em-up adventure you remember, but it comes with a nice set of new 3D graphics as well. Gameplay stays as true to the arcade as possible (throwing enemies into the screen) as well as new tricks like being able to face all four directions while fighting, rather then just left and right. First 24 Tracks For Guitar Hero 5 Maybe it's just me and not being totally up on my current music or even my older music, but to me it seems that Activision and Vicarious Visions are going with some of the more obscure songs from artists to drive players to the game. Even options for you XBox and PC users that kind of got the shaft the first time around with the release. Even though the more economic version of it all is still on the PS3. Mainly because it is all bundled in for the cost of the BluRay plus a little more.
