The Phoenix Rises
by Jonathan Dean [ Monday, 6th of August 2012 - 04:49 PM ]
Hello one and all! My name is Jonathan Dean, and I’m thrilled to be one of the newest members of the writing team here at Aggrogamer.com. Let’s see, what is there to know about me? I've been playing games mostly since high school, and as the title suggests, my gamer tag for the Xbox 360 is PhoenixFusion1. I personally prefer games with heavy story and substance, probably due in fact to being a fiction writer and movie buff. I wasn't introduced to the gaming world until my junior high school years. Introducing The Scarecrow
by [ Wednesday, 1st of August 2012 - 06:27 PM ]
Greetings ladies and gentlemen of the community. My name is Todd Naevestad and I am the newest member of AggroGamer's writing team. This little article is to tell you a little about myself. Let's get right to it. I am a student still, entering my junior year. I am training in professional writing. I have a love for words and telling stories. In the future, I hope to work for a place like BioWare or Bethesda, maybe a place like Wizards of the Coast. I want to work in games of all kinds. Read More...

A Moment of your Time...
by Bryan Ray [ Tuesday, 8th of November 2011 - 01:21 AM ]
Greetings fellow gamers! If I could have a brief minute, I would like to tell you about myself. My name is Bryan Ray, frequently referred to as King Xanadu, and I will be writing for Aggrogamer over the next several months. (Perhaps years? I like the thought.) I play mostly XBox 360 though I do have a Steam account for my dated laptop (It's old enough to have a “supports Windows Vista” sticker on it) but I don’t use it as much as I’d like. I love music, a lot. So much that I am currently attending college for it. Read More...

The Old Republic Has A Date
by Matt Waitt [ Monday, 26th of September 2011 - 02:02 PM ]
I woke up this morning (9/24) around 10 AM and I did my usual rounds across the internet: Facebook, Pwned, YouTube. I then checked my email and whats on top in my inbox? "Mail from The Old Republic Community - The announcement you've been waiting for" Huh, seems interesting. Curiosity drives me to see what is inside this email. I rejoice to find the release date for Star Wars: The Old Republic - one of the most anticipated MMO's of all time. Star Wars: The Old Republic comes out on December 20th, 2011 - mark your calendars, sell your kidneys and start working on a second job. Read More...

Diablo III Brings Real Currency Trading
by Corey Dockendorf [ Monday, 1st of August 2011 - 09:38 PM ]
Well here's some interesting Diablo III news. Players will be able to exchange in game items for real currency! The service will be hosted through an unannounced third party company. The Auction House will be very similar to an E-Bay style system but also completely optional. Players will be able to purchase gold, weapons, armor and runestones on their current Battle.net accounts, but Blizzard says there will be no "Game play affecting" items available for this type of trade. At the time of this writing Blizzard has no plans to post items directly and will leave the item trading up to the players. Read More...

Star Wars: The Old Republic E3 Intro Cinematic
by Corey Dockendorf [ Wednesday, 8th of June 2011 - 05:15 AM ]
Okay, that's it. If I have to watch one more cinematic teaser for Star Wars: The Old Republic, I'm gonna scream. Honestly, these things are so awesome, it's almost like a feature length film. The latest one released at E3 this year has me torn. I'm no longer sure if I want to be a Jedi or a Sith - and for good reason. I'm just going to sit in a dark room and watch all these cinematics in a row until the game comes out. Seriously though, I was hoping for more gameplay at E3, but this will do. Read More...

From Padawan To Jedi Knight In The Old Republic
by Corey Dockendorf [ Wednesday, 30th of March 2011 - 03:57 PM ]
Armor progression is probably one of the most important factors in MMO's to date. It establishes your identity, your rank, your skill and possibly your luck, all just because your robe of +10 to "sexterity" is harder to get than anyone else. Star Wars: The Old Republic has given us a quick look into armor progression of the Jedi Knight and all I can say is "the force is strong with this one." What makes this video so entertaining is we can compare the armor differences between the two sub-classes of Jedi Knight, the Jedi Guardian and the Jedi Sentinel. You want to be a one-handed-force-wielding-tank-and-spank-bad-ass? Read More...

Always Look On The 'Light' Side Of Life
by Corey Dockendorf [ Monday, 20th of September 2010 - 06:29 PM ]
Today's developer diary from BioWare highlights Star Wars: The Old Republic's Jedi class, giving us a brief look into class versatility and the separate experiences players will get through both of the sub-classes, Knight and Consular. You don't necessarily have to be the goody goody Jedi (although you can), you will have options to play the more forceful and vengeful Jedi as well. From this video we also can see how diverse the Jedi class is, from playing the sneaky rogue style of game play, or straight on damage dealer, Jedi have a little of something for everyone. The Lightsaber battles are probably the largest parts of the Star Wars series, and by the look of this video, BioWare seems to be putting that extra polish on, and making sure players get the full Lightsaber dueling experience. New inFAMOUS 2 Footage That Will Jolt The Senses
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 9th of September 2010 - 07:45 PM ]
Yes, that title is cheesy, but it was a quick way to let you know that the upcoming inFAMOUS 2 looks like it has gone leaps and bounds graphically from the first. From these screen shots and video it almost looks akin to the upgrades from Uncharted to Uncharted 2. For those of you who are a PlayStation nut or fan, you know that is a major upgrade. If not, Google the first inFAMOUS and then look at these new visuals. Now if only they could convey how well the game will play or how the game's story will be this time around. Read More...

Gamer Teaches That Philosophy & Video Games Can Mix
by Brian Bentley [ Friday, 16th of July 2010 - 06:32 PM ]
Today at the University of Cincinnati, students began their next summer session. While normally a Philosophy class on your schedule may be cause for alarm, a class full of students is tackling Philosophy in video games. Designed by Philosophy Ph.D. student and gamer Vanessa Gorley, “Violence, Sex and Immorality: Video Games and Philosophy” will explore philosophical topics through the eyes of one of our own. About the class, she says, “This class explores the social and moral implications of video game play. Video games are a substantial part of our culture and we need to look into how they affect us. E3 2010 Impression: Spec Ops: The Line
by Binh Nguyen [ Tuesday, 22nd of June 2010 - 08:34 PM ]
At this year's E3 it seem like everyone and their mother had some sort of shooter that will be coming out later this holiday season or sometime in 2011. Yager Productions and 2K games is no exceptions where they showcase Spec Ops: The Line for the first time. If for some odd reason you do not know much about this game then here is a little something about the game. Spec Ops: The Line is a third-person modern military shooter where you choose your own path in the game base on tough and unimaginable choices that you have to make on the field. The field where you have to make those choices, the destroyed city of Dubai. Read More...

Dante's Inferno Getting All Saintly
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 1st of April 2010 - 06:41 PM ]
In just under a month, the next batch of DLC for Dante's Inferno will be hitting XBox Live, and the PlayStation Network. It will be bringing two new modes with it, multiplayer and "build-your-own-challenge" mode. Also a few new enemies to add to the roster. Although I'm going to say that they are going to be slightly altered models from the main game with a new coat of paint. Look at the last DLC that came out. But this is of course information we all knew about from the start. Read More...

The Force Is Strong With George Lucas' Wallet
by Kevin [ Wednesday, 24th of February 2010 - 04:20 PM ]
For a game that many people wrote off for shoddy controls and questionable graphical quality, The Force Unleashed has reached the "sold seven million units worldwide" mark. The charm of the title was perhaps not that it was a new entry in the Star Wars canon, but that it was somewhat decent and not a BioWare title. For me, it was the combination of finally feeling in control of a being that was a serious Force-powerhouse and getting a fresh spin on what can sometimes be a very stale mythology. Lucasarts is not satisfied with this meager accomplishment and is already pushing forward on a sequel that is coming this year. Read More...

Pea-shooting Zombies On The Go With iPhone/iPod
by Binh Nguyen [ Wednesday, 17th of February 2010 - 12:34 PM ]
Plants vs. Zombies was one of the 2009 most played games for the PC, especially for those at Aggrogamer.com. PopCap Games has announced today that they will be releasing the game for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Plants vs. Zombies will be available now at the Apple’s App Store for $2.99. Andrew Stein, Director of Mobile platforms from PopCap Games made the following comment, “Plants vs. Zombies for iPhone and iPod Touch marks the first adaptation of our wildly popular ‘flower defense’ game to a new platform, and we’re excited at how well it has translated to the iPhone and iPod touch.
