Hollywood and Video Games: An OpEd
by Ben Brody [ Monday, 3rd of August 2009 - 01:58 PM ]
Two words that should never belong to each other: Movie Game. Let's face it, except for a select few (and let's keep in mind that GoldenEye 007 came out 2 years after the movie did), very few licensed games of a film have been even halfway decent, and yet more and more are coming out. Games from series like Harry Potter and Ice Age have been hits with kids that liked the films, but movie based games have failed to find a home with more mature audiences. Games like Resident Evil, Max Payne and Tomb Raider have spawned successful (Box office wise) movies, yet very few mature movies have spawned successful games. Perhaps it's due to the inherent fact that while in video games, players often feel like they have the freedom to make a choice that will affect how the game turns out. Read More...

Zelda Wii: Five Ways Wii Motion Plus Can Make the Series Pop
by Brian Bentley [ Sunday, 2nd of August 2009 - 10:28 PM ]
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was essentially a port from the Gamecube to the Wii with improved controls. Now, “New Play Control” Wii games like Pikmin and Mario Tennis now sell for the reduced price of $30 USD. Twilight Princess, being a launch title on Wii, sold for the full $50 USD price point. I do not regret spending the money; the game was extremely enjoyable and since I had not played it on the Gamecube, it was a fresh and exciting first Wii game for me. At E3 this year, Shigeru Miyamoto announced that a new Legend of Zelda was being created for the Wii and released one piece of concept art. Read More...

Burn, Zombie, Burn! Hits PlayStation Home
by Jesse [ Friday, 31st of July 2009 - 09:15 PM ]
Kuju Entertainment and Doublesix announced that they are doing their part to help support PlayStation Home with the creation of a new Home Space based on their successful PlayStation Store title Burn, Zombie, Burn! Designed in the same spine-tingling yet cartoony art style, the Burn Home Space is set as a graveyard. There are three crypts, the first two housing Burn, Zombie, Burn! extras as well as a hedge maze mini-game. Read More...

Watch the training video, before you fire that gun
by Binh Nguyen [ Friday, 31st of July 2009 - 05:26 PM ]
Darkest of Days is only a little over a month away before their September 8th release of the game. If this is the first time you have ever heard of the game here is a brief overview, or read my E3 impression. But overall you are a time agent going back into different parts of time and solving the reasons why history is changing. Did I mention that if you screw up history also that other agents will come after you? No? Read More...

The Ultimate Gaming Wishlist
by Jesse [ Friday, 31st of July 2009 - 02:52 PM ]
It only took two days for Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution to sink its hooks into me. I became addicted like no other game I’ve played before. But as much as I love Civ Rev, there are so many little things that could make it so much better. Before I get to the suggestions though I should mention, I’ve never really played any of the Civilization games that preceded Revolution so it’s entirely possible that the features I want to see were part of the formula prior to the franchise’s makeover. However having said that I found a lot of similarities between Civ Rev and a far less known PC game called Starships Unlimited. They are essentially the same game except where Civ Rev is focused on Earth and using historic civilizations, Starships Unlimited is set in a fictional universe and utilizes a variety of alien races along with humanity. Screen Shots Like Tribbles
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 30th of July 2009 - 09:52 PM ]
53 Shots From Star Trek Online Just when you think things are about to go quiet and cold for the elusive Star Trek Online, a plethora of things come flying out from Cryptic. It almost seems like they really did have an invasion of tribbles that somehow mingled with their screen shots and just kept multiplying. They have gone from releasing just a few shots with numbers of around 6 to the 53 that you will see below. Either that or their PR team has been sitting on these since before E3 and just now thought, "Maybe we should release them now. Read More...

by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 30th of July 2009 - 07:43 PM ]
Official Guitar Hero 5 Track List and Garbage A few weeks back we brought you the official track list before anyone else on the net even could. Or what a lot of people stated to be our "Rumored" track list for Guitar Hero 5. You know who you are if you are reading this. But the official listing has just been released from Activision for the world. Let's compare the two lists and see how close our "Rumored" list came to the official listing. I think you will be pleasantly surprised with them both. Read More...

Comic Con Issue #2
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 30th of July 2009 - 05:31 PM ]
Friday: XBox and PlayStation Day After fixing the few technical issues with Issue #1, we move onto the next day. A day dedicated primarily to what two of the largest companies and platforms brought to show off the gaming world. PlayStation and Xbox in case you couldn't figure it out. For some reason Nintendo was completely void of the con, outside of the companies showing off Wii and DS games they have coming out. But that's not the point here. We got to see a few things, meet a few celebrities, as well as end the night hanging with some of The Guild actors, Sony Hardware people, and the guys from the Totally Rad Show. Read More...

Use Your Skillz To Pay Da Billz
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 30th of July 2009 - 03:27 PM ]
Video game site lets players bet on their skills Looks like there is a new site for gamers to literally put their money where their mouth is. Well more literal that the phase is commonly used. Who'd want to put all that dirty cash in their mouths? Sure I hope none of those Halo fanboys/fangirls. I do hope. It was just announced that a new site, BringIt.com, is about to come out of beta and allow for gamers to compete against each other for more than just their pride, but their cold hard cash. Video Games Live Rocks the Queen City
by Brian Bentley [ Thursday, 30th of July 2009 - 01:13 PM ]
Since its inception in 2005, Video Games Live has been entertaining crowds across the globe.  With its epic scores, great energy and audience participation, VGL promotes the gaming industry in an extremely positive way.  Created by famous video game composers Jack Wall and Tommy Tallarico, the concert series’ agenda of solidifying game music as an art form and the games industry as a positive force are present and spotlighted but are carefully swaddled by the fun, excitement and showmanship.  The first show, in the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, had over 11,000 people and was instantly a phenomenon.  As the first few years have passed, the show has slowly made its way down to smaller cities and venues. Comic Con '09 Hands-On Impressions Dragon Age: Origins
by Corey Dockendorf [ Wednesday, 29th of July 2009 - 11:23 PM ]
After a short walk from the San Diego Convention center to the Hilton Gas Lamp, I found myself standing in line to play one of the most anticipated games this year at the EA games lounge. I received some free swag (blow up sword!) to get my excitement pumped up until I walked in the double doors and made a quick left to a PC version of Dragon Age: Origins. Just my luck, a previous player had just finished and walked away, giving me the opportunity to hop in the hot seat and start from scratch. Let me start off by saying, visually this game is stunning on PC. Read More...

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 - Ultimate Character Reveal (Invisible Woman)
by Jesse [ Wednesday, 29th of July 2009 - 07:51 PM ]
Being a working mother can be difficult, not that I speak from experience, but when your “occupation” is that of an adventurer and costumed superhero, I guess it’s easy for things to get a little complicated. Like the rest of the Fantastic Four, Sue Richards (then Sue Storm) was a member of Reed Richards’ crew who piloted his experimental spaceship designed for interstellar travel. Bombarded by cosmic radiation, the four were altered genetically and granted superhuman abilities. Sue initially obtained the power of invisibility, but even with such a power she was often relegated to the “damsel in distress” role. Read More...

Comic Con Issue #1
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 29th of July 2009 - 04:30 PM ]
Thursday: The First Official Day Earlier, I brought you what went on at the preview night of the convention as well as how it has changed quite a bit. For the worse in my opinion. But that didn't keep me or the Aggrogamer team from pressing on to the first official day of the convention. A day that I deemed EA day. A day full of games, small reveals, lounging, and a few extra after hours events. It'll make sense when you continue down. Read More...

Wolfenstein to Sponsor Premiere of Inglorious Basterds
by Brian Bentley [ Tuesday, 28th of July 2009 - 10:36 PM ]
Who better to sponsor a premiere of a movie about killing Nazis than a video game franchise that wrote the book on killing Nazis?  Today, Activision and id Software announced the sponsorship of the "Inglorious Basterds" premiere by the also soon-to-be-released Wolfenstein.  Also included is a contest in conjunction with GameStop with a prize that includes airfare, accommodations, tickets to the premiere and admission to the after-party.  The contest begins today and must be really short considering the premiere at Grauman's Chinese Theater is August 10.  I shouldn't really encourage you to sign up for the contest as I have visions of sitting next to Diane Kruger.
