Dive into the gameplay features for SAW: Genesis to see how this all might build further into the SAW IP
The announcement for SAW: Genesis left many of us scratching our heads with the premise and story. That is to say the least. Not that it sounded like it would be a bad game from Anshar Studios and Broken Mirror Games. Just that it felt like it was outside the norm of the IP so much that it might not work. Then again, Bloober Team has been backing so many great projects as of late, it would have been bad form to just dismiss SAW: Genesis based just on the story and setting. That can all be tossed aside as long as the game has a fun gameplay loop and plenty of things to keep us all locked into our PC for it. That, thankfully, is why we are here again for the game. Now, we get to see just how this 3v1 asymmetrical horror game will actually play as the game carries on.
In SAW: Genesis, we are going to be either playing as Accursed or the Judge in the matches. The Accursed are our general characters made just for the game, who will need to run about the procedurally generated maze to solve puzzles, dodge traps, and ultimately find their way out of the "game." The Judge, while not Jigsaw, will be taking on that role in the game. Setting up the traps and taking time to block off parts of the maps to make things harder for all of those Accursed out there. All with the bigger twist of The Judge, while there will be different characters over time, they will take more of an active role in all of the games in the SAW universe. All so they can capture whichever Accursed during the matches to put them through very specific traps that will have them learning to sacrifice to live. That also means that savvy Accursed players will be able to hunt down the Judge and give them all of the pain that they deserve in the mix, which will make it easier for them all to find their way out of the maze. There is a little bit more to it, but that is the overview. You can get the finer details in the following video, which explains all of this.

Did you expect this kind of loop in a SAW video game, and does this make a little more sense to you now? Was there a better reason to see this game a hundred years before the main story of the IP, or is this just a game the team was working on before they had access to the IP? What other kinds of Judges will we get over time, and will this one be a title like SAW: Genesis with many original and IP-based characters joining in? Let us discuss our thoughts on all of this down in the comment section of the page. We will have even more for SAW: Genesis as we get close to the closed alpha test, so please follow along on the website. You might also want to follow all of our social channels to ensure that you see when we have any new information to share. This is a weird one, but we are still excited to see if it will put any of our doubts to bed. Only time will tell, and maybe that time will be soon.
