Directive 8020
Those on the PC with Directive 8020 will have some better sights, as Directive 8020 is launching with all the Nvidia perks
There was some big news out of GDC this year and it is all about some of the new path tracing tech that PC gamers will be able to see, with Directive 8020 adding to the list of titles out there. This is not overly surprising given how Supermassive Games has always been trying to push forward and evolve their methods. At least, that is how I have always seen it from their titles. Now, on May 12th, those who are playing Directive 8020 on the PC and have the latest Nvidia hardware installed with the coming updates, you will get to see the full game with these path tracing elements and the DLSS 4.5 reconstruction. Those who will be playing the game on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, sadly, will just have to settle for the following look and other videos uploaded from those who have the hardware.
In all honesty, it does not feel like you will be missing out much, as Directive 8020 is more about the story than the flashy visuals. They are in there, but even in the following video, it feels like it is only the reflections that are getting the massive upgrade. The rest of the game is rather dark, so it is hard to estimate how the lighting in all of this is going to truly flow. Maybe a bit more in the shadows, but that is also just promoting more of the darkness that will just be black pixels on our screen. Not to say that Directive 8020 does not look slightly better with it all turned on, but I do not see that as the selling point of the game. Unless it can all enhance the choices and story somehow, it is just another gimmick to sell hardware and not the specific software that we are all looking for.
Directive 8020 — NVIDIA Path Tracing & DLSS 4.5
Directive 8020 will launch, featuring path-traced lighting and effects, enhanced by DLSS 4.5 and DLSS Ray Reconstruction, elevating image quality and performance.
Directive 8020 releases on 12th May 2026.
From the creators of Until Dawn and The Quarry – Directive 8020 is an all-new cinematic sci-fi horror adventure that blends intense survival gameplay with meaningful choices and a branching storyline.
Where do you stand on all of this, and does this make Directive 8020 look like a much better game to you? Will we be able to sense enemies coming at us better with the lighting, or will it just make some of the scenes look closer to photoreal while having little impact? How many gamers out there will be able to actually run the game with all of these settings on, or will most of us be enjoying the game in standard mode while watching the videos others have made? Let us have it all out in the comment section. I am still hoping for more gameplay for Directive 8020 to drop out there, along with other updates, so know that will be here on the website when it does. Those updates will hit all of our social channels as well, so follow along on them all to ensure you do not miss out.
