Occultist
Learn a bit more about The Occultist and the location that will be its own character as we explore with The Occultist
It is not uncommon that stories aim to make the location we are experiencing as a character to itself, and that is what it looks like that will be happening in The Occultist when we get to experience it. This time, though, it looks like DALOAR is using the game's location as a way to draw us in and also give us more of the nightmares we can expect to experience in The Occultist. That is what the recent developer diary and gameplay for the game are telling us. Things might be different once Daedalic Entertainment brings the game to the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, but here we get to see just what the developers are going for when it comes to the massive location we will find ourselves wandering about. Let us have a look and listen to it all.
As the story goes for the Godstone in The Occultist, this was a place that was once a utopia of sorts, where people came from all over looking for a new beginning. The place offered that up, but over time, it transformed into something more of a nightmare. If I had to guess, all because humans do what humans do best and muck up a good thing. This is where Alan comes in and experiences the location. Well, a little bit after, as The Occultist is leaning into the idea of places holding onto emotions, events, and darkness in a location, and less of the physical beings sticking around. That means, most likely, the Godstone is going to have a whole lot of environmental storytelling for us to pick up on as we wander the grounds. Maybe even a bit more than we might have suspected from the start. Have a look at what the team has to say about all of this in the new developer diary that we have to offer up to you all.
The Occultist — Godstone: A Place That Does Not Forget
Godstone was envisioned as a utopia, a place for people seeking a new beginning. Over time, it transformed into a nightmare. As players step into the role of Alan Rebels, they do not encounter a living community, but the echoes of one. Godstone holds on to the final moments of its inhabitants, preserving their fear, their despair, and their unresolved past as if time itself had frozen.
The video explores how Godstone is experienced not just as a location, but as a presence. A place that remembers. A place where beauty and unease coexist, and where the past refuses to stay buried.
Do you think that the location will truly be as big a player in The Occultist, or is this just to build up some hype around the world that the team has built? Will we be interacting with the events of the past in this title, or will we only be dealing with little story beats to drive the narrative forward a bit? How do you feel about the environments and buildings of the world holding onto emotions, or does that seem a little far-fetched for you to get behind? Let us have all of that discussion in the comment section further down the page here. We are still on track for The Occultist to launch this year, so we do expect there to be a few more updates along the way. Updates that we will have for you on the website and all of our social channels that we can have it on. Please keep up with all of that and let us know what we should look into next.
