The Comedy Writing Walks A Very Fine Line In High On Life 2

High On Life

Learn more about the writing process that has gone down for the upcoming High On Life 2 so you can be ready for all of the laughs

We all have been expecting the writing to be top-tier when it comes to High On Life 2. We have had that in the past, and with all of the other things that fall in line with Squanch Games, so it feels like a reasonable expectation to have. Even if writing comedy is not the easiest thing to do out there in the wilds. With February 13th rolling up quickly for High On Life 2 to land on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, it feels like we might need to have a few things explained to us so we are not expecting too much from the game. That is why we are back with yet another developer diary that goes into the humor and just how the comedy is being written for this go in the IP.

Just as we might have assumed, all of the comedy in High On Life 2 starts with the many passes of written scripts that the team goes over. Many times, with jokes that none of them think will land or will be just too dull to actually get anyone to laugh during the absurdity of just a general first-person shooter game. That is where the second punch of things comes in here for the comedy, by just letting the voice talent do what they do. Both reading from the script and making it their own, and also taking some of it and making things up as they go. Just about what we would assume for a title like High On Life 2. If you have any doubts about that, have a look at the developer diary that we have to share along with all of that. Then you will know for certain how all of the comedy will come to life when the game is fully ready to be put in our hands.

Were you expecting there to be a different process to the writing in High On Life 2, or does this feel about what you were expecting? How much of the game do you think will be on script, and how much of it will be the actors riffing with freedom? How do you think they are going to handle the loss of the voices we had from the last game, and will they have something humorous to explain some of that away? Let us all discuss this in the comment section further down the page here. If we get more to talk about before High On Life 2 launches, know that we will share it on the website for you. Please keep your eyes open for all of that on the website or the various social channels that we are sharing it all with.
