Resident Evil
The latest showcase for Resident Evil Requiem is out there, and it shows how past Resident Evil titles are driving the gameplay
Just as we have all been promised, we have a new showcase out for Resident Evil Requiem. Partially to get us hyped up to pre-order the game before Capcom drops it on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC, and partially to make sure we all know what titles from the past we should be familiar with before playing. Not just for the story, but as it seems that Grace will have some basis in certain Resident Evil titles when it comes to tone and gameplay, while Leon will have a vastly different one based on some of the other games. Grace being more of the tension and horror aspect of titles like RE2 and RE7. Leon, sadly, will be leaning into the action of things, but more like that of RE4. I mean, that is fitting, but I was under the impression that we were trying to move away from all of that. Given that it will run side-by-side, it could pay off, but that will not be the only bits of gameplay that we have to help carry us all through.
Now that we know what we are getting ourselves into for Resident Evil Requiem, let us have a look at it in action. In the footage we do have, we can see that Grace might need to rely way more on stealth than anything in the game, using crouching and only leaning back on the massive hand cannon when push comes to shove. Then we get to see Leon going full action star out there, not only with his weapons, but also with those of the enemies he has taken down. A nice little twist to keep things flowing for him and not grinding on the search for resources that Grace will have to go through. Those hoping Grace will have an option like that in Resident Evil Requiem, well, she kind of does. She might not be able to pick up fallen weapons, but she will have the ability to harvest infected blood to use in crafting. Crafting that seems to do more of the healing in the game, along with making some amazing bits of gear to take down the various infected we find in the world. The infected being something that also feels like they have been humanized a bit more, or the latest virus is allowing for more memories to guide them beyond the basics of being a zombie.
If you need more than just gameplay to pull you in for Resident Evil Requiem, even though that should be enough, it looks as if there will also be various collaborations, statues, and celebrations going on when the game launches and into the future. Porsche and Hamilton have brought things to life in the game and the real world. Leon's car and then custom watches for each character, respectively. Going along with all of that, we have more figurines to buy for our Resident Evil collections, and the Switch 2 will have various controllers and editions of past games launching at the same time. As if that is not enough for February 27th, the game will also be hitting GeForce Now cloud gaming to give more PC gamers a chance to experience the game. All so we can unwind with the 30th anniversary with a few concerts taking place around the world. It does seem like this is going to be one of the bigger years for the IP, even if the game does not hit as hard as they might be hoping. Let us hope it all flows out well and gives the IP yet another push forward.
Resident Evil Requiem — Gameplay & Story
A new era of survival horror begins when Resident Evil Requiem launches February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.
FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft and Legendary DSO agent Leon Kennedy star as the dual protagonists of Resident Evil Requiem, offering players a unique combination of death-defying action and spine-tingling survival horror. As revealed previously, both protagonists will be playable in first-person perspective for deeper immersion and third-person perspective for more dynamic action, swappable at any point during the game.
- Leon Kennedy: Leon, experienced in both hand-to-hand combat and firearms, is investigating a series of suspicious deaths. While navigating this deadly situation, he’s able to wield a variety of weapons and execute close-quarters combat maneuvers with the all-new hatchet. Perfect Leon’s skills as you time your moves to parry enemy attacks, turn the tables as you attack with a chainsaw seized from an enemy, and pull off exhilarating finishing moves to deliver the final blow.
- Grace Ashcroft: Grace begins her survival journey in a sanatorium overrun with zombies, requiring fierce judgment when deciding which enemies to fight and which to avoid. Limited resources and carrying capacity force the player to make critical decisions that can mean life or death. Acquiring a special device allows Grace to craft vital items using infected blood, unlocking the opportunity to diversify your attack strategies. The Requiem assault revolver, a special nod to the game’s name, is a custom gun boasting immense power and will likely be your last resort for survival. With limited ammo, will you use it right away or save your ammo for the horrors ahead?
- Zombies: The zombies in this game have lost their minds, however some seem fixated on actions from their lives before death. A chef obsessed with cooking, a singer who keeps singing, a janitor who polishes mirrors endlessly…Could you exploit their behaviors to outmaneuver them?
- Elpis: Elpis is the keyword that connects everything: the death of Grace's mother, Alyssa Ashcroft; Grace's own past; and the story connected to Leon. It's up to you, the player, to unravel the mystery that leads to the truth behind the events depicted in Resident Evil Requiem.
- Difficulty: Players can choose from multiple difficulties when experiencing the horror and action. Casual offers aim assist, plus more forgiving player health and enemy durability. Standard (Classic) heightens the tension, requiring Ink Ribbons for each save while playing as Grace, demanding strategy not only in resource management but also when to save.
Do you think we are going to have enough Resident Evil in our lives for this year, or will you still want more as we wait for the next big film? Do you like that each of the characters is getting drastically different gameplay styles, or will the action side of things let some of the horror fans down out there? Will there be a limit to which weapons Leon can pick up, and do you think Grace will be able to make some truly explosive concoctions along the way? Let us all discuss this in the comment section. We still have a month until Resident Evil Requiem launches out there, so expect us to have all that we can find for the game on the site. Even with some of the gripes I do have, it still looks like it could be the next best thing in the IP. So, follow along on the website and our social media to see if we are correct in that. Also, follow along to see if all of our doubts come to fruition.
