Beneath
A new update for Beneath is on the way for us that will take the visuals of Beneath back to the mind-90s look & feel
If you were sitting around after playing Beneath after its recent launch on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and were thinking the game would have been fun had it released in the '90s, well, it looks like there will soon be an update just for you. Coming on December 18th, Camel 101 will be tossing out a new and free update for the game that will take us back to that era of video games. Not in some weird time travel thing in the game, but with an update that will downgrade all of the visuals in Beneath to give it that 1996 flavor that everyone seems so desperate to see again. I have no clue why, but it is going to be a thing, as well as another reason to do a run through the game after many of made their way through it already.
To this day, I still have no clue why gamers like going back to the retro days of gaming, but Beneath is leaning into it with this DLC. It is just a mode for the game, and not much else besides quality-of-life additions will be in the mix, so it is not something to complain about. It will just be a way for you to pretend you are playing a game when you were younger or not even born yet, with a title that already has some solid visuals that we should be enjoying instead. I guess it does cause those good brain chemicals to flow out there, even if Beneath is all about the horror and nightmares. Maybe that will make the game easier for some to be able to play. With everything getting pixelated even further, you will not be able to see the gore and blood flying everywhere. Most likely, you will also miss out on the environmental storytelling too, but does that even matter if you can pretend to play a game in an era that many still call "the good old days?"
Beneath — Retro Mode
Bringing you bleeding-edge visuals (circa 1998), Retro mode brings the same combat, the same oppressive deep sea horror, but reborn in glorious low resolution. Retro mode combines some adjusted visual presentation and filter techniques to bring back the ‘sat in front of the TV cross-legged at midnight’ nostalgia, and if we do say so ourselves… really adds a distinct charm to our nightmare-filled research stations.
You can get your hands on this update on December 18th, for a very pixelated Xmas treat!
Have you had a chance to play through all of Beneath, and will this update draw you in to play it all one more time? Do you like playing games in this "retro" style, or do you like to see the vision that the team originally executed the first time? Were you even alive in the '90s, or is this all a fancy dream that has been sold to you that this was the best era of video games out there? Let us talk all about that in the comment section below. As we get more for Beneath and this update, we will update you on the site and our social account. Please keep following along there to see and hear it all, even if some of those feel like they offer the same service as something out of the '90s, even if they were updated yesterday…
