More Characters Are In Our Blood Out Of SDCC For Mortal Kombat 1

Mortal Kombat

More characters for Mortal Kombat 1 have been announced out of SDCC along with more guest characters coming in for Mortal Kombat 1

In general, SDCC does not feel like the place where new information for Mortal Kombat 1 would have been dropped out there, but gods did we have a massive drop of information out there this year. Quite a bit of stuff that feels like NetherRealm Studios would have given us if the more traditional video game conventions would have been happening, but had to wait until they could pack a room with fans. Not only that, but to make sure we were all excited for that September 19th release of Mortal Kombat 1 on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC. After what we have to share here for the game, I know you will be looking to get out there and pre-order it all. More so with a few more of the classic characters coming back as full fighters and the confirmation of the Kombat Pack characters coming along. It looks like those rumors of a few characters were true…

First, let us dig into the new characters and story we had announced for Mortal Kombat 1. The Umgadi are back in action with Tanya making her way back in but also we get a few more of those Deception characters in the mix. Li Mei is in as a full fighter and Darrius as a Kameo character. Then there is my favorite back in from Mortal Kombat 2 with Baraka and his tribe showing back up. Although, it does feel like things have taken a massive shift for that and they might not be a full other race of people out there. At least not at first. As the story shows, it looks like their look and blood lust are a bit of a disease and Mileena has been infected this time around. An interesting twist to try and freshen things up out here and I am not certain how I like all of this. Only time will tell for now.

Mortal Kombat 1 — Umgadi

Umgadi warriors are chosen for greatness, and they will uphold their duties at any cost. Cross them at your own risk.

Main Roster & Kameo Fighters:

  • Li Mei – The former member of the Umgadi now serves as a constable in Outworld’s police force and has an array of magical abilities at her disposal
  • Tanya – Leader of the Umgadi, she is a skilled fighter and one of the order’s most trusted members
  • Baraka – An outcast due to the Tarkat plague that has turned him into a deadly monster, he now leads his fellow afflicted Outworlders in battle
  • Darrius – The klassic character returns as a Kameo Fighter, providing support during matches with a range of assisting moves

It's In Our Blood. Discover a reborn Mortal Kombat 1 Universe created by Fire God Liu Kang. Mortal Kombat 1 ushers in a new era of the iconic franchise with a new fighting system, game modes, and Fatalities!

Mortal Kombat 1 releases September 19, 2023, to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Windows.

Now we get to move on to the other announcement we had out at SDCC for Mortal Kombat 1. That is the Kombat Pack that is included in the bigger editions of the game as well as available for purchase later. A pack that will have a few more Kameo characters but also give us six new fighters to use in the game. Those fighters are Quan Chi, Ermac, and Takeda from the MK universe, and then we will see Peacemaker, Omni-Man, and Homelander showing up in this universe somehow too. There were some massive shocks for those who did not want to believe the Mortal Kombat 1 rumors when they dropped shortly after the reveal, but here we are and we are eating crow over it. While we did not get to see the characters in action at all, we do get to see a little of their looks as we wait. Even if we will need to wait extra long for Homelander to fly in, but I am sure that is to make sure that release comes about when the next season of The Boys releases too.

Mortal Kombat 1 — Kombat Pack 1 Roster Reveal

Justice. Their way. Introducing your roster for the Mortal Kombat 1 Kombat Pack fighters.

Kombat Pack:

  • Quan Chi

  • Omni-Man (Based on the original comic book & animated television series Invincible)

  • Jean-Claude Van Damme (Johnny Cage character skin featuring voice & likeness of famed actor & martial artist)
  • Ferra, Johnny Cage, Khameleon, Mavado & Tremor included as Kameo Fighters

On top of all of this, while out at SDCC, we had a chance to talk with a few from NetherRealm Studios, including Ed Boon, about the game. On top of that, the voice actors for Smoke and Li Mei. Sadly, not much was able to be spoken about during these interviews that we did not already know. There is a lot of game story going to be hidden in the environments of the game as well as little nods all over in the fights and the actors did a good portion of their voice work in home studios. The interesting tidbit we did get from Ed Boon about Mortal Kombat 1 was that there was talk about adding in an easy move and combo system for the game, but ultimately it was scrapped. Not because they do not care about accessibility for the game, mind you, but to make sure we got the full product in the best way along the timeline. There was talk about possibly adding it in later or fully integrating it if there is another game in the line, but it is not something we can count on in this round of the game. We will have that interview up on the channels once we are able to clean it up and you can make sense of it all.

Are you floored by seeing some of these characters in the mix for Mortal Kombat here or did you buy into the rumors on day one of it all? Do you like seeing characters from the lesser-known additions to the IP or were you wanting to see more of the staples out there? Is this the only pack of characters we can look forward to or will there be others that will blow out minds just as the game does it its characters? Take to the comments and then feel free to discuss it all as you so wish to do out there. We will have much more to share for Mortal Kombat 1 and SDCC on the site here soon, so please keep on coming back for all of those updates and everything else we can get out to you here. I know you will not be let down by any of it.
