Something Positive and Refreshing in Gaming

As they are few and far between, here comes another quasi-positive thing from video gamers that needs to be mentioned. With the video game bill trying to stamp out first amendment rights for games, we all need to look and see what these games can do: like bring groups of young adults together for community service.

No, I am not talking community service that is imposed by the penal system. I am talking the kind that is voluntary to show that people still have some kind of kind heart left. Just like these kids from Mililani High School in Mililani, HI. They did so much for the local populace that they caught the eyes of Pepsi and the viewers/members of RefreshEverything.com. A site set up to grant funds to people/groups out there with ideas to help the world.

While the club is based around video games and a love of gaming, they do go out and help the community to make it all a better place. Hell, they are using the granted money to run a leadership camp that is intended to help build self esteem and encourage community involvement.

To help celebrate this and promote their initiative, they are also getting a special visit from two people recently appearing on WCG Ultimate Gamer 2: Hannah Simone (WCG Ultimate Gamer) and Kelly Hu (Jason Takes Manhattan, Surf Ninjas, Dead Space: Downfall) for those of you not in the know. Also sWooZ1e will be there to game with them after the initial celebration and presentation of the giant check. Not too shabby.

Gods I love hearing positive things from the gaming culture and not the tea bags or d-bags showing their faces. I also wish I had a video game club in high school, but I'll just have to live vicariously through the younger generation instead.
