In the latest Game Developers Diary for the much anticipated action FPS Brink, we learn the story behind the Ark. This post apocalyptic battle rages within this compound which houses way more citizens than it was designed for. So now this takes us to the story line, which is the turtle vs. the hare. You have on one side the resistance camp that is out of resources due to overpopulation, and think that the islands security has been hoarding their resources, and need to start sharing the wealth. Thus begins the close quarters civil war. So there really is no good guy/bad guy, it's really a matter of survival which you will define as the right side.
Game play aside, this massive world is really going to highlight the new SMART (Smooth Movement Across Random Terrain) system that we've heard so much about. Players will be jumping/climbing/running over many obstacles in a Parkour style, utilizing the SMART button. Judging from the developer's video below this is going to be a very detailed world, and many tactics will need to be employed in order to win these fire fights.
Brink is offering players single player, co-op and online multi-player game play, which makes discovering the Ark a great place to roam with friends (and enemies). This game looks like the game Realtime Worlds was trying to make. If Brink is more polished and brings a better game play system then APB, Bethesda and Splash damage could be bringing us the next customizable shooter everyone has been waiting for.
