There is no dispute that God of War is one of the top grossing games that is exclusive to the Sony PlayStation. Just as there is no dispute that I am one of the world's largest fans of the franchise. With large franchises, of course, there is always going to be merchandising and off-shoots to keep the power house rolling. God of War is not being any different with PSP and mobile game offshoots, toys, clothes and even an awesome new comic book.
But when is there going to be enough? Now there is a novelization of the first God of War coming out. Don't believe me? Check out the excerpt. You might not be too surprised it is there.
What you may be surprised by is the low quality of the story telling by the author. For a game that is all about the epic story and visceral imagery, you would expect more. Granted, it is just the prologue and a short excerpt leading to Kratos' fight with the Hydra, but still. I had to force myself to keep reading the little bit there is. It just seems to be missing something. That or Santa Monica Studios ruined any other telling of the same story by producing the legendary one they did.
They did such a great job with the first comic book that came out for God of War, why did they allow such a crummy version for the paper back? I mean, to put it in perspective, I really enjoyed the novels that were based of the Resident Evil games. All of them. So I would have thought that I would have loved one for God of War. But from the looks, they need to really clean up the storytelling form for the rest of the book if I am to even be interested in picking up a novel based on a story I have already played through over 40 times.
But you be the judge I guess. I am not a book critic after all. I just know what I like.
