The Blue Bomber In High Definition?

You know, this Eric Ruth guy is quickly becoming one of my favorite people. Not being content with creating a Left 4 Dead drenched in 8-bit nostalgia, this guy took it upon himself to recreate Mega Man 9 in High Definition. To accomplish this, he had to redo every element of the game, from enemy art to music. So essentially what he has done thus far is take a really high profile current title and give it the retro treatment.  Now he has taken what is essentially a retro title - outfit it in high profile-y type goodness - and condensed it into a finely tuned package of incredibly awesome. I'm not sure through what manner of arcane magicks Mr. Ruth dabbles in, but clearly there must be something much more sinister and dastardly brilliant at work in his inner sanctum. Although he stopped developing the title out of respect to the might of the cease and desist hammer from Capcom, take a look at the video below and judge for yourself if this guy has earned props from the fathers of the franchise:

He also makes several notes on the video including:

  • There will be HQ screen shots available on his website soon in the game's full resolution (1536 x 960)
  • The game was started with the idea of it being completed, but due to Capcom knowing about the product, difficulties in collision detection, loading times, and lack of time, the game is in "demonstration status."
  • The video shows the only fully functional stage in action.
  • The music in the game was taken from various official and fan soundtracks. He did none of the music work, just sound effects. The art, however, is something completely different. He hand-drew every character and all of the background tile pieces. In his words, "No, I don't mean with a stylus on a pad. I'm talking about a piece of paper under a desk lamp with a pencil, inked with a fine tip pen and finally scanned, cleaned up, and colored in Photoshop CS3."

I believe in this instance, the proper response is to bow and humble yourself. You may do so now.
