Riven Plays With Some New Music For The Remake We Are Getting

Riven

A new bit of music for the Riven remake is here along with the original team talking about new things for Riven

Things are flowing faster and further for the Riven remake and now we have a new thing to listen to. Some of the new music that is in the works so Cyan Worlds can further bring this remake to life. Not only that, but to dive into a few things that the original team was not able to do or even thought of doing in the first place. A weird thing to think about, but it is what is happening for the Riven remake. So, before it lands on the PC in a flat screen or VR setting, let us have a listen and a little watch to see what is on the way from this title in the near future. It does sound like they are putting in a whole lot of effort and deserve that level of attention from us at the very least.

While it may not be the most impressive update for Riven, we do have some nice music to listen to as the video flies through various locations and environments in the game. All of them are remade with the latest game engine technology. Still not showing any true gameplay, sadly. Along with all of this, though, we have the team behind the original Myst and Riven talking about what they wanted to do with the original game but only now have a chance to do. That would be to give us an actual story and plot to engage with and not need to hunt down via journals. Something that they also admit was not the best thing, but what they had to do at the time. Have a listen and then a look at the latest for this title and see if this remake is going to be something that pulls you back into the IP. It does sound nice, looks nice, and seems to be going about giving us a game in the way we all have been waiting for.

Riven — Remake Brand New Music

Cyan Worlds is pleased to announce that Robyn Miller, company co-founder and original composer of Myst and Riven: The Sequel To Myst, is creating new music for the highly anticipated Riven remake. This marks Robyn’s return to the franchise he co-created after 27 years, for which he also composed a memorable and fan-beloved soundtrack. For this remake, Robyn will bolster the already iconic soundtrack of the game with brand-new music. The track debuting today is Part IV of a larger piece of music that contains four movements, and a first sneak peek is available right now on Cyan World’s social channels. You can check it out on the link below. More details regarding release platforms and availability for Riven’s soundtrack will be announced at a later date. Riven is a modern remake of 1997’s monster hit Riven: The Sequel To Myst, and a love letter to the classic narrative-driven puzzle games of the ‘90s. When exploring the decaying age of Riven, Cyan Worlds wants the player to feel like an archeologist, slowly unraveling the many mysteries of the D’ni and Rivenese mythologies. Through careful exploration of Riven’s five enigmatic islands, players will uncover clues, decipher foreign languages, and immerse themselves in the game’s intricate lore. Riven encourages players to lose themselves in its world and find solutions to the game’s puzzles through careful and profound reflection, examination, and contemplation of the environment.

Leveraging modern-day technology and the power of Unreal Engine 5, Cyan Worlds aims to recreate and expand on its vision for Riven with development focused on delivering native experiences on both flatscreen and VR platforms. The game will offer an unparalleled level of immersion, allowing players to truly feel part of the enigmatic D’ni Empire while exploring the decaying age of Riven. With new puzzles, expanded storylines, and breathtaking visuals, even those who know the original by heart will find themselves lost again in its depths.

Riven — Conversation With The Creative Team

Rand Miller, Robyn Miller, and Richard Vander Wende, the creators behind 1997's monster hit video game, Riven, recently sat down to talk about their experiences. This is an excerpt from their longer roundtable discussion.

What do you think? Were the journals integral to your experience when you played Riven, or were they something you skipped?

What do you think about the new music we have for the Riven remake here? Does it land as well as they thought it will or does it need to have some true gameplay behind it to fully understand? Is it odd to have the team talking about something that players did not like being the inspiration of something that is going to be a core part of this game? Take to the comments to discuss it all and then get ready to wait a bit longer. If we have more to offer up for Riven, we will do all of that here. Please keep on coming back to see and hear about all of those updates as we are able to share them. It does feel like this one will be one of those rollercoaster events when it comes to remakes.
