It Is Time To Cook Up More Violence With The PO’ed: Definitive Edition

PO’ed

Classic shooter PO’ed is on its way back to us with the latest announcement for the PO’ed: Definitive Edition

Add yet another of those classic titles from the 90s coming back to us with Nightdive Studios churning them all out, as we have the announcement for the PO’ed: Definitive Edition. A title that was given to the world back in 1995 and is now heading back out this year on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC. It is a title that I am sure many missed from before, but with the extra weirdness the original PO’ed offered up to the gaming community then, it is sure to be fully embraced by the modern crowds too. I am sure that is the bigger assumption based on the current trend in gaming as well as having all of those nostalgia buttons pressed at the same time.

For the uninitiated, PO’ed was a title from a few decades ago that went along the lines of DOOM and QUAKE as it is a first-person shooter with some of the over-the-top action they have been pushed to in the modern era too. The bigger difference in this title is that we play as the chef of the spacecraft that has gone down and are now upset that you have to put in more of the dangerous work out there. That means shooting up the aliens trying to kill us. Something we will be able to experience a bit better with the PO’ed: Definitive Edition as it will offer many of the basic quality-of-life improvements for the game as well as everything coming at us in 4K now that we have the technology to do that. Here is a bit of a teaser of what is going to be coming down the line with the remaster.

PO’ed: Definitive Edition — Announcement

Inspired by generational powerhouses DOOM and QUAKE, the original PO’ed pushed first-person action games to new heights with its over-the-top, action-packed, fast-paced, explosive, ridiculous, bloody, smelly, scrumptious, adjective-filled, ultra-violent 3D gameplay. You play as a chef who crashes on an alien planet infested with extraterrestrial foes, using a menu of “household” weapons to deliver a dish best-served cold (by dish, I mean revenge, just in case you were confused).

Nightdive StudiosPO’ed: Definitive Edition spices up the classic 1995 shooter with updated visuals, antialiasing, increased framerate, redefined controls, and up to 4K 144 FPS performance.

Your ship has been overrun by aliens. Your comrades-in-arms have been annihilated, and your soufflé has been ruined! What do you do? Grab your jetpack and rocket launcher, and fry those suckers! PO’ed features 16 of the baddest, maddest, and most unattractive monsters in the galaxy. Rock-throwing ogres, plasma-shooting robots, giant bats… and walking butts!

PO’ed: Definitive Edition Key Features:

  • A plate full of quality-of-life features to enhance the gameplay and fix bugs present in the original game (which can be toggled off)
  • Wet your whistle with widescreen support for the HUD and other on-screen graphics
  • A new delicious difficulty mode has been added for hardcore players
  • 15 appetizing achievements
  • A dash of localization support for English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish
  • Total freedom! Cruise on foot or fly with your jetpack through 25 wild 3D environments

PO’ed: Definitive Edition release for Windows PC via Steam and GOG, PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One and Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch in the very near future.

I am vaguely remembering PO’ed from back when it originally launched, but given the other titles it was like, I am sure I missed out on this one. It happens and I was also on the younger side of things when it launched so my gaming options were limited. So, I guess, this is a remaster made for gamers like myself or those who do not truly care if there is much more of an enhancement to the visuals of the game beyond not looking stretched for the newer screens. I mean, PO’ed is not that massive of an IP that it would earn a full remake out there, so we need to take these little additions as they come. It is just odd given the other projects that the studio has worked on that they went with this one too. They can not all be System Shock or Star Wars, I guess.

Do you remember the original PO’ed or was that a title lost to time for you? Do you think this is a remaster that will be worthy of adding to your collection or should it have been left in the past with a few other titles? Why not try to upgrade the various other assets along the way or will that be part of the charm they are trying to push with this title? Take to the comments to discuss it all and see where all of that will take us. If we get more to share for the PO’ed: Definitive Edition, we will try to do so here. Please keep on coming back to see and hear about all of that as it comes out.
