Venom Attacked Us At SDCC With More For Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Spider-Man

One more look at Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 happened out at SDCC along with a panel showing off a bit more for this Spider-Man title

We all knew Venom was coming at us in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and out of SDCC this year, we have a lot more to see and listen to about the game and character. I mean, Insomniac Games were able to get Tony Todd to do the voice, so they are going to want to show all of that off before the launch of the game on October 20th this year on the PS5. Which, of course, they do while talking about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 during the panel out at the con. All while giving a nice little trailer that might show off just who will be attached to the symbiote in this story as we know it will not be any of the characters we normally see donning all of the black goo out there…

Let us kick things off, just as the panel did, by looking at the new story trailer we have for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. A story trailer to bring in the normal cast and crew of the game, all while introducing us to Harry Osborn into the game. A personal relationship that will play into the one that Peter and Miles have while also building into many other things. It also feels like the trailer is leaning into showing us that Harry or Norman Osborn might end up being Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. I say this as we hear Venom drop the same line that both of those characters state earlier in the trailer. Even if both of the characters usually go down different villainous paths in the other stories, it would not be a huge shock if this is where they go. Although, I hope this is clever editing and the truth will still be hidden until we play the game.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 — Story

We’re going to heal the world.

The Spider-Men, Peter Parker and Miles Morales, enter new chapters in their lives as they balance their responsibilities as protectors of Marvel’s New York. As Harry Osborn, Peter’s best friend, returns into his life, and Miles looks to build his future beyond high school, the relationship between our heroes is tested and strained as the Symbiote appears to threaten them, the city, and the ones they love.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is now available for Pre-Order on the PlayStation Store. We can’t wait to play the game on October 20th, only on PS5.

Now that we have that under our belts, we can have a look at the shorter version of the panel that was held for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 out at SDCC. By shorter, it is the meat of the panel that leaves out a lot of the pandering, crowd interactions, and basic stuff that usually pads these things to an hour long. Here we have a nice fifteen-minute version of it all where Insomniac Games talks about what went into making the game and how it will use many other elements of the Spider-Man stories in addition to Kraven and Venom. Also a bit of fun with Tony Todd giving us more of the fun voice work, a showcase of the massive statue in the collector's edition, and a look at the themed PS5 and DualSense controller that will be available for the game. Just in case you bought the game already and did not have a PS5 already.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 — San Diego Comic Con 2023 Panel

Dive into a brand new, darker Marvel’s Spider-Man story with Insomniac Games’ Senior Creative Director Bryan Intihar, Senior Game Director Ryan Smith, Senior Narrative Director Jon Paquette, Senior Art Director Jacinda Chew, actors Yuri Lowenthal (Peter Parker), Nadji Jeter (Miles Morales), Laura Bailey (Mary Jane Watson), and Tony Todd (Venom), along with Marvel Games VP & Creative Director Bill Rosemann. Get a behind-the-scenes look at Insomniac Games’ take on the monstrous Venom, what’s new in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and how the symbiote plays a role in the sequel to the hit PlayStation games Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

I will say that it is fun to know that Tony Todd was selected for the role of Venom specifically for Candyman and not anything specific for Spider-Man or Marvel in the first place. Also that Mary Jane will be off doing her own thing and more of a background character unless that is a rouse with the team placing her off-site to keep us all off the trail. I am a bit curious why they keep mentioning Kraven in the game but then focus more on Venom instead. I know it felt like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was going to use that villain more than Venom in the earlier trailers, but now I fear that story will be thrown to the background more than anything. Again, this could be some clever marketing to keep us all off the true trail of the story we will experience.

Were you able to make it out for the SDCC panel showing off everything for Spider-Man or did you need this video drop? Do you think that we just had the Venom character spoiled here or is it a way to make us look the wrong direction until the game launches? Will Kraven play a larger role in the game or will the focus always be back on Venom with Kraven just in the background? Take to the comment section and let the world know your thoughts and feelings on all of this. We are going to keep sharing all that we can for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 as we get closer to launch. Please keep your eyes coming on back here to see and hear all that we have to offer up along the way out there.
