Psychonauts 2 Adds A Publisher To The List & Aims For A 2018 Release

Psychonauts 2

A new deal for Psychonauts 2 has been struck adding in a major publisher and setting the release window for Psychonauts 2 to 2018 at some point

It looks like Psychonauts 2 could potentially be an even larger title than we thought as not only has it raised enough funds from the general gaming community, but now it looks like the game is getting another major bit of funding with a new publisher agreement. It has just been announced that Double Fine and Starbreeze have entered into an agreement to add $8 million USD to the funds to make Psychonauts 2 above and beyond what has already been raised on Fig. It doesn't look like this will alter any of the existing things set up through the crowd funding and investing site but it will allow for a larger budget and hopefully a bigger and better game in 2018. Yea, that is the slated year of release now.

In addition to this new deal, it also looks like we have another gameplay and art update to gaze upon for Psychonauts 2 directly from the source. It shows off what looks like some core gameplay for the game but it is heavy implied that this is just a test slice to ensure that the team has the look and feel of the game locked down before they start working on the production versions of the game's levels. In all honesty it looks like this will make its way into the final build of Psychonauts 2 given how everything it laid out and tied in, but if anything it just gives us all a solid look that the game is headed down the direction that we all were fairly sure it was going to go.

Starbreeze, an independent creator, publisher and distributor of high quality entertainment products, has signed a publishing agreement with Double Fine Productions regarding the game Psychonauts 2, to be released in 2018. Starbreeze will invest $8 million USD to bring the game to PC and other console platforms through digital distribution.

Psychonauts 2 is a third-person action/adventure platformer where players control Razputin Aquato – a newly graduated Psychonaut with powerful psychic abilities – as he delves into the minds of others. The player will use Raz’s PSI powers, such as telekinesis, pyrokinesis, and levitation, in combination with Raz’s acrobatic platforming skills, to explore the mental worlds of the game’s eccentric characters.

The story of Psychonauts 2 picks up directly after the events of the first game, and the VR adventure Psychonauts In The Rhombus Of Ruin, but players will not need to have played those games to follow the events of Psychonauts 2. In this new story, Raz arrives at Psychonaut headquarters, excited to finally become an official Psychonaut, but soon finds himself torn between the laws of the Psychonauts, his loyalty to his friends, and a secret mission that could undo everything for which he has fought so hard.

How do you feel about this new agreement for Psychonauts 2 and how it will all pan out? Do you think this will make for a larger and hopefully better game or will it just fund some large voice talent to lend their voices to the game with not much else? Do you think that it will be safe to assume that we will be looking at the end of 2018 more than anything or could it be earlier in the year? Let us know your thoughts on all of this down in the comments and feel free to discuss. For more on Psychonauts 2 as it is handed out to the world, be sure to stay right here.
