Can You Believe Hellblade Has Only One Environment Artist?

When Hellblade was announced for the PS4 back during E3 it looked like Ninja Theory had a huge undertaking they were working toward. The world of Hellblade looked insanely rich to the point that it looked as if all of their other titles could have fit into the game's world here. That is why it is a bit hard to believe their latest developer diary which shows that the world of Hellblade is being built by one artist with a lot of input all around. Yes, you read that, there is only one environmental artist working on this title.

Granted, that most likely means that he is the main lead who is taking all of the assets built by others and putting them to use in Hellblade but that is still quite an undertaking even though it sounds a bit easier. Normally there is a huge team building the world and environments and not just one person. I guess this another added bonus to using the Unreal 4 Engine to build Hellblade as it is as powerful as the industry is making it out to be and then some.

Mind you as the above is most likely in use Ninja Theory is using the progressive generation that has been used many times already before Hellblade to help aid in the construction. Also the reuse of assets in different ways is also helping here as you only need so many rock models built and then they can be stretched, twisted, manipulated all over Unreal 4 to build quite a lush environment while saving time and resources. Like I said, powerful and handy for most developers now.

With that I'll let you watch the latest Hellblade developer diary so you can see for yourself. Even if seeing how a game isn't your forte you will find some fun stuff for Hellblade in general mixed in. Enjoy.
